Rode home from work today and reached my usual turning that would take me up the street in which I live; however, decided to carry on and managed to add a further 48 miles to my journey home taking in the Cat and Fiddle. I'm sure most of us have taken the long way home at some poiny;  I do all the time. But what's the most anyones added to a journey by taking the long way back from a routine journey? Good job Mrs G was not there when I got back.

I live in Huddersfield and work in Manchester which is roughly 40 miles and takes anywhere between 35 - 50 mins.

Sometimes on my way back I do the following route which is 65 miles and according to Google maps should take 2 hours

One Friday night I left work in Chelmsford, and got home to Chelmsford about 12hrs and 440 miles later.
Had been to Llandrindod Wells for a late dinner (Fish & Chips) and then home.
No motorways, 2 tanks of petrol, on my GTR1000.

So 440 miles instead of 3 miles.
Didn't get home until almost 5am.
The last hour was hard work.

Damned if I can remember how good they were.  ???

I'd had a bad few days and needed to get away and let off steam.
I had a race with a guy on the Aylesbury-Bicester road, and after that it was just a case of ride, ride, ride.
I had no plans on where I was going. I just kept going until I had to switch to reserve.
Once I started looking for a petrol station I became fully conscious of where I was, that I needed a pee, and that I was hungry.
Found a petrol station on the outskirts of LW and after a fill-up and a pee, rode into town and found a Chippies that was still open at midnight.

Left LW about 12:30 and was home around 05:30.
I was tempted to take the M25 back from Watford but stubbornness made me stay off the motorways all the way home.
I slept like a log.  ;D
