If anyone came round my gaff and offered me £6.5k for mine I'd kick their arse up to £7.5k. They may be a niche bike but show me a dealer with 2010/2011 bikes priced up as low as the figures here say even allowing for the time of year.

If I was looking now I'd rip the arm off the seller with an '11 bike for £6.5k!

Massive difference between pre and post Traction control and if I was after one now and wanted a cheaper but equally capable bike I'd buy a minter, low mileage A8 but as luck has it I've got the CAF.

With K not significantly upgrading the model next year lets hope the depreciation is limited and not the freefall it was when TC was introduced.

For me the bike is a financial necessity for the job so the price is pretty key. It's a shame I don't get the pleasure I used to as I HAVE to ride.

Not complaining too much though!
I'm not sure what mileage Steve's GTR as done to date  but it's must be near or past the 20,000 miles mark, which means it's near due the major service which involves the shims at a cost of approx £600 plus! also it's a bad time to sell private  have also seen 11 plates and 12 plates with under 5,000 miles selling for around £8,250 so although I rather not agree with the "the old boy" I would also say private sale for a 11 plate with approx 20,000 miles on clock in good condition soon due the major service would be £6,500 to £6,750 max! and trade in on new bike with a value of £13,000 plus "without discounts" would expect a p/x value of approx £7,250 max
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Yes, it's a fact that when we pay big money for our bikes, when the time comes to move on, we have to swallow a big pill  .  This and most other bike forums are full of people who think their bikes are worth more that they really are. We have had members on here (Keith) getting next to no money for utterly mint bikes that are just like brand new, In the real world It's a buyers market, and it always will be. So enjoy your bikes whilst you own them, and just accept the fact that they are never worth what you imagine them to be.

You know Geoff, I had a similar conversation today with a fellow BMW owner...

No matter how much it costs, it's what it's worth to you.  At the time.

I must agree. Also what most people fail to add into the equation is, how much have you enjoyed doing your 20,000 (or whatever) miles?. In pounds shillings and pence terms, you just cannot put a value on the fun you have had.

Ok, I'm here, I was just letting you all get on with it. Hyperthetically if I were to be selling the bike I'd be looking at £7500, I simply wouldn't sell it for anything less at the moment. The bikes done 19200k which is nothing really.

If I were to sell or PX, the only two bikes which interest me at the moment is something called a GS and a K16.

I'd never dream of selling at this time of the year, early Spring approx would be much better.

Anyway it's been an interesting thread to say the least. As for this scooter rider, I agree with Dave, I would not appreciate having someone riding so close to me that they were a liability.

There are some excellent riders on here, Winston, Rusty, Rossendale Rider, Dave, Asif,  :whistling: etc.

The value of our 'pride and Joy' depends on a number of factors, mileage condition, etc etc, every dealer has to also take into account what his current stock profile is i.e if he already has a GTR or two in stock he most likely won't be too bothered about adding a third one, hence his P/X offer may be reduced accordingly, additionally every dealer has bills to pay, profits to make, repairs and servicing to conduct on P/Xd machines  before he can re-offer them for sale, plus most purchasers of used machines expect a warranty to be included with a machine that's offered for sale.

Dealers offer a P/X price which often (should) includes an "over allowance" that is to say he offers more for the P/X than it is actually worth in terms of residual/realisable value, ergo he may offer you £7,500.00 for your machine which in fact probably has a residual value of say £6,800.00 therefore the £700.00 "over allowance" is taken out of any profit within the machine you are proposing to buy. This enables the dealer to outbid other dealers who may be competing to sell you a new or used machine from their stock, and this is the reason why some dealers are apparently able to offer you more for your miachine than the guy down the road.

Also consider, some dealers, with a franchise, do not like to have non-franchised stock on their showroom floor, BMW dealers, and other franchised dealers, are notorious for only wanting another BMW in P/X, as such they will get a 'trade bid' on your P/X if its not one of their franchised marques, before they do a deal with you, what happens then is that your P/Xd machine will go straight out of the dealership to a trader and not remain in his stock of used machines.

Any dealers stock, be it cars or bikes, must be valued at a realisable figure, its basic accounting/auditing practice in order to show a true valuation of assets within a balance sheet.

Sorry for the extended explanation, but I have managed, as a General Manager, dealerships, so I do know what I'm talking about, and its often useful to understand that not all dealers are trying to rip off existing and potential customers alike, they simply want to make a living, granted some are greedy bast*rds and others aren't, as individuals they have different overheads and different profit aspirations........we are all different...... and dealers are too.

Prices for privately sold and prices for a machine sold from a dealership will always be different to those offered through a dealership

Maybe this will help to clarify why there is often a disparity in P/Xing your bikes

I'm always considerate when riding in a group

And as you've happily ridden out with us in the past Asif, you know that we are too

I wouldn't want anyone on here to get the wrong impression about my and Geoffs (100milesaway) riding skills/tactics whilst we are riding out

We both have many, many years of riding under our belts and are both considerate riders who both ride with respect and we always 'expect the unexpected'

I wouldn't want the banter or ranting on here cloud anyones judgement

Not a Versys then?

I do like the look of the K16 and hope Kawasaki up their game with the GTR soon

Rog.. just in case you missed my post on the previous page... I did make it obvious that my comments did not involve yourself or Geoff  and I quote my statement as follows....     but to be fair.. I must point out that I had both Rog and Geoff in my sights and they kept a good distance between each other at all times and rode in a sensible yet spirited manner :sweatdrop:

I would also like to point out that Geoff brought the scooter man up first not me  :whistling: I was just defending myself  p.s now I know why the scooter man was but behind me :hammer:
