I have got to replace my rear 023 this week because it has squared off after about 5k miles (since I have been commuting). The consensus seems to be that the PR3 is the best tyre but I have an 021 on the front, although with only a few thousand left on it. Can I put a PR3 on the rear with an 021 on the front? my brdgestone squared off at 4.5k and i put a pr3 on the rear and its done 4.5 and still looks new. i had the brdgestone still on the front and it was fine, did a tour through the alps and felt posative, ive now replaced my front with a pr3 at 9k miles and that now makes the bike feel a bit better again. i always mix my tyres until i get both tyres matching, never had an issue.

Thanks Viper. That's given me the confidence I need to give it a go. I'm going to Middlesbrough though; not quite the Alps!

Just ordered as set of PR3's for fitting tomorrow - about to go touring the Alps and the Bridgestones are very squared off at 4.5k miles. Front probably has about another 2k left in it but will change to be 'on the safe side' with the grossglockner as part of our tour. Just hope this weather holds....

The next question is where to get them. All my local places don't have stock and I can't find anywhere online that has them. Sorry for being dumb.

I've been buying my tyres for different bikes online at www.mandp.co.uk and then get them fitted by my local bike mechanic.

I've just bought and had fitted ContiMotions (only £130) plus fitting. I had these on a 1200 Bandit last year and they were fine in all weathers. Hope they will be just as good on my GTR.

O.C.

If you plan to have the tyres fitted by a specialist remember to remind them that your bike has TPS (Tyre Pressure Sensors) which are located inside the rims on the valves, they are prone to being damaged during tyre removal/replacement if care is not taken , and at a replacement cost in excess of £200 each its worth exercising caution

Also you may find that a tyre fitment specialist wont fit tyres supplied elsewhere, its not always the case, but can be a stumbling block in some places.

Most tyre places tend to keep a limited stock/range of tyres but most of them should be able to place an order for delivery for either the following day or the day after. When I book in my bike with the motorcycle tyre place I always use they can get tyres for the following day. So unless there is a stock problem with the wholesaler or the manufacturer, which can happen occassionally, then the garages should have the tyres you want within a day or so.

I would have thought any garage would be eager for the business so I can't understand why they wouldn't make the effort of trying to obtain the tyres you want.

Kind regards

Steve

I had an 021 on the front and an 023 on the rear. They were on the bike when I got them but the rear was new I think. I needed both replacing after 5k miles as they had both squared off badly. My PR3s have made the bike feel completely different; it turns in much easier. It's so different, I thought I had lost the back end a couple of times. I have my Rospa retest and Advanced tutor assessment tomorrow so maybe it wasn't a good idea to get new tyres a couple of days before but illegal ones were a worse idea. At least it gives me an excuse if I don't do well  :help:

Just been to the dealers [ Wheels of Peterborough ] and had a pair of PR3's fitted.
Original Bridgestone was SQUARE after 5,500 miles, front was OK, but was not sure if it would mix the PR3.
