I did the P90x last year. Got very fit and then let it go.

About four years ago when I was working in Scotland, I would get bored in the evenings so joined the local council fitness clubs. Went from 13st to 11st 5lbs. It was hard work though. Didn't realise it at the time, but my thyroid was on its way out.

From next week starts my new training regime which is sports I enjoy: boxing, badminton, and spinning (was going to become an instructor at one point).

The only real bitch of a problem I have is my lower back (probably due to the bad form I had doing sumo deadlifts). Yoga help immensely but it is the limiting factor in how much exercise I can do.

As for diet, I've started the lean gains approach (http://www.leangains.com/), which means I fast for 16 hours and eat healthy in the remaining 8 hours. Early days yet, but I do feel a lot more healthier following this approach, which incidently, is more or less how my diet used to be when I was younger.

Edit: just seen the livestrong site. Very useful

yeah P90x (BRING IT!!  :mfr_lol:) is great... i did a course on it a couple of years ago... tis nice and simple but very effective, only probs is that it is hard, which is why most people give up...... the diets a bit 'funky' too  :mfr_lol:

Only part of P90x I do now is the Yoga.

I didn't think the programme was that wow TBH. More down to diet.

The main problem I have is getting off my lazy ass and doing some exercise.

I wish I had know that five weeks ago Mr Mogs :biker3: :mfr_lol:

I could certainly do with breaking my love affair with food  :agree:  "I know you do Luv, now where is my bacon sarnie?"

Thanks Mog.
I'm at the start of an extended diet.
I started off at 26st 9lbs at the end of Jan.
Am down to 25st 7lbs as of Monday morning.

Am losing between 1 & 2lbs per week with occasional weeks of no loss.
Target weight is below 20st but I don't expect to get there until end of 2013 at the earliest.
Will be joining a gym soon to try to raise that loss to 2-3lbs per week but don't want to go any higher than that.

I am also not being anal about it, just methodical.
On a recent weekend in Belgium I was eating Frites with Andalouse sauce, Pate de Foie Gras, and muchos yummy Belgian beer.

I am a big feller so I doubt if I'll ever hit what the Doctors reckon I should be (14st  :ohplease:) but if I slide at some point I may well ask for advice.

I know where you're coming from, doctors tell me I should be 13'6lbs. Even after diet and excercise for a year, going from 20st to 14st 8lbs, that wasn't deemed enough even though I started to look ill. Then I saw the physio and club doctor at the rugby club, they both said aim to keep healthy at 15st and keep waist at 36", struggled a bit this winter but it's much easier to get back to target when you have attainable goals.

When I lost lots of weight cut out bread, alcohol, cakes and upped the veg/fruit intake, never felt like a diet really. Do a reasonable amount of exercise walking, refereeing etc so just increased the time.

Good luck :punk:

My mate is around 25st. Big fella, always been big. He once went on a diet that saw him drop down to about 12st. He looked ill.

His size is deceptive. For a big guy he can move fast on a badminton court :(

O.C.

I've always been a 'big lad' as a result of which I was selected to play rugby for the school under 13s, when I was eleven, My Doc once said that my target weight should be 13-14 stones I told him that I weighed almost that when I was 13 years old.

I suffered Prolapsed discs in 1979 resulting in 5 weeks traction, which was fun (NOT) followed by having to wear a corset for two months afterwards, but continued playing Rugby for a number of years afterwards.

I managed to get my weight down to 15 stone and became very fit after extensive 'Power Hour Training' with Sam wakefield, but that was in 1992, since which time I've become a blob and also  the proud owner of a back condition called Spinal Stenosis, which is VERY problematical.

BUT since restarting work again in Mid February this year I've lost about a stone and now weigh in at 17stone, and I feel a lot better.

You are right Mogs ...a healthy body is a better body... now, where's that packet of Chocolate digestives gone   :mfr_lol:
