Plastics don't come as standard and some of the paint is unbelievably thin.

If you look at GTR's and ZZR's with only 250 miles on them you can see where the paints top clear layer has been buffed away.

Put plastics all round bottom of tank where your crotch rubs, and do it the first few days.

And where your heel rubs the black metal panels above the footrests. They wear through in 2,000 miles too to shiny metal.

what he said, and also where your knees go and the tops of the side cases

Sad to hear that the GTR's paint is so thin and easily worn away.  However, the 3M Film sounds like a great solution.

Does it get tatty at the edges over time; even microscopic dust build up might delineate the edges?

Is there a solvent for its removal if that become necessary ?  Maybe it just peels off.

Do any members polish their bikes with one of the various "super"polish products available?

Just because many do it does not make it right. Just because many think it does not make it true.

Mogster

Mine's been on for nearly a year, and there is no 'scuffing' of the edges, the stuff goes on with out any adhesive and is simple to remove, just warm with a hair-dryer and peel off  :gunsmilie:, and as far as cleaning goes, i use a stuff called 'ice' which polishes the matt bits as well as the gloss and leaves no residue......  :innocent:

I bought my 08 with it already on and no issues around the edges at all

you could buy a bagster tank cover and matching bag. "kill 2 birds with one stone" protect your tank and carry your every day :shit: in the bag, thus! leaving the panniers and top box safely packed away in a unmarked and shiny condidtion in the garaged for thoses touring trips
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

another good idea is to fit one of theses http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KAWASAKI-GTR1400-LHS-FRAME-PROTCTOR-CARBON-GRAPHITE-/180849931640?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2a1b7ef578 I noticed mine starting to "rub" away last year, can't be having that now can we! defo :nono: there expensive for what they are, but dose a good job of stopping your boot rubbing the paint on the frame away. if you choose the graphite colour protector, it's a good match for the frame paint

Hi 2Kwaks,

Oh Yes, Bagster is a given, if, as and when.  They are usually fairly prompt with the colours for the cover but so good on matching bags......  listen to me; I'll be wanting colour coded Jimmychoo touring boots next

I I've the colour coded tank cover and bag for the zzr. I've also have the colour coded tank cover for the gtr but I've a black bag! did try and get a coloured coded bag for the gtr, but bagster said they where not carrying on the line with coloured bags for all bikes. they would only be supplying the most popular colour from now on, which seems to be black, white, grey-which is a close match for the silver, there's just to many different variations of colour bags, taking into consideration the majority just buy black which suits all colours. to be honest the black looks fine with all coloured tank covers, if I would I've bought the black bag instead of the "silver grey" bag for the zzr, I would not of even asked about the coloured bag to match the gtr magnesium colour, just would I've used the black bag for the both  I've posted the link to which is the coloured match bagster tank cover for the gtr "greenie thing" you will soon be picking up  "please note" none of the covers are a perfect colour match, due to dyeing the colour onto genuine leather. but think bagster do a dam good job of getting a closer match as possible. if you are thinking of getting a bagster cover and bag, do your homework on the size of bag you need! for example, the "alpha" is the large bag and the minear is the medium size. the minear, which I prefer! is 12 ltrs unexpanded and 22ltrs expanded. unexpanded you can get all what you would need in it for everyday use, for longer trips you can expand or use the bikes luggage and keep the bag unexpanded for those items you need excess to fast and more frequent. the minear size bag, dose not look to bulky and dose not get in your way when riding

Thanks 2Kwaks.

My K12, you might have seen the picture, is blue and silver (best combo they did in my humble) the tank cover is a good match for the blue and the bag (largest size) is a grey to match the silver.

When expanded and filled to the brim for touring, it comes well up my chest.  I find it very comfortable when riding and great to rest your head on whilst waiting for the train/ferry.

Not sure about a black bag but will look out for one in the "flesh) not that I see a great many GTRs.  I wll have to go down to

Rikas cafe at Box hill for a gander.
