most dealers do fill the tank up when buying a bike from them. but if their tight sods like george whites where, you will need to fill up as soon as possible, I did  think mine had one segment lit up the the gauge. did call them a bunch of tight sods when I noticed the petrol was low. but they said it was company policy to store minimal petrol on the premises, I replied! Oh no, not that old chestnut ... if they are as tight as a nats chuffter with the fuel, you can always engaged your eco mode
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

I test rode 4 BMWs yesterday whilst my GS was being serviced and 3 had less than 10 miles of fuel, one stopped 4 miles out! :gun_bandana:

When I got back after being out for 2 hours with one bike due to walking 2 miles before a kind motorist stopped and offered me some fuel and a lift back to the bike. All the sales staff said was, check the fuel on the next bike before you set of!!!!!!!!!

No I didn't buy one! All it showed me was that the 1200GT was the one I liked best, but the gearbox was awful, now what would do that job better???

Did you try the K1600 Nigel?
Just because many do it does not make it right. Just because many think it does not make it true.

No I was trying the F800GS, GS1200 with Double overhead cam which was nice but not great, brakes showed up mine mind, K1200GT went well and was comfy, but oh that gearbox, made car driver jump in traffic when I went into first! Lastly K1300R fantastic engine, gearbox better but strange seating/bar relationship with knees up and arms down, just felt odd, not like a sportsbike just odd!

Didn't do the K1600 as too scared of it's size, it is massive! Would feel embarressed owning that and going less than 100 miles anytime I went out, plus you need to look you're off round Europe! didn't fancy it going into "limp home mode" either as it was beautifully sunny and over 20 degrees!!

Also took me 20 mins chatting with the anoraks about my GS when I left.
