Anyone had the following warning come up' That their tyre sensor battery is running low'?
Pit peed off as the bike is only 11 months old.
I take it inside the rim with the sensor is a battery and the next time I replace the tyre I need to replace the battery. Seems a lot of work to do before then, with the hassle of taking off the tyre just to replace a small battery.
Also can anyone tell me are they like the hearing aid batteries or something exotic to Kawasaki with an exotic price?

I am led to believe that they are under warranty same as the bike so give your dealer a call and let him know, ideally the time to change the battery is when changing tyres but if yours have loads of life left in them then it's down to the dealer, you may get more advice from others here who know better.

The battery in question is a CR2032 button cell, with tags on. I'm about to change mine along with tyres at the end of the week. They have to be soldered in on pre-2010 models,K reckon it can't be done and you have to replace the whole sensor, we'll see, but later ones may be replaceable. I will post later in the week.

Thank you both for this. It does seem to be a bit rich that this needs doing. My bike is a 2009 but I bought it brand new in early 2011. (Got a good deal) so will check re the warranty. If they give me the sensor than I will get that fitted when I change the tyre. Would you believe my dealer does not do tyres.

Thanks for all the info. This just shows how valuable this web site is. No need to join the owners group.

Hi there,

I don't know if you have this sorted by now, but I have the same problem.  Kawasaki have agreed to replace these under warranty for me (2010 Gtr) so I am awaiting the delivery to my local dealer...(Although I have been waiting for over a week!!!)
A friend in need....Is a pain in the a**

Hi
I had the same problem with mine when it was a year old,it only normaly happens at low temps. Kawasaki Bornmouth changed both of mine under warranty. They have been ok ever since, mind you there is no chance of me taking the beast out for a run as we have 8 inchs of snow and its -9 as i type.(we do live in france and yes we did move here for better weather!.)

"have to be soldered in on pre-2010 models"  2010 onwards or the traction control model, you can simple replace the battery with out soldering. well if thats the case I'm as happy as a pig in shit  if not then
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Sorry, NOT is the answer.
All years Tyre Pressure Sensors are the same.
I've seen the pics on one of the US forums.

You have 2 choices once the TPS battery runs out if the bike is out of warranty.

1- Remove tyre, remove TPS, open TPS, unsolder battery, solder in new battery, reassemble, refit, refit tyre.
If you replace the battery the TPS is already coded to your bike.

2- Buy a new TPS sensor and pay a Kawasaki dealer to fit it AND code it for your bike.

If the bike is still in warranty then it's Kawasaki problem as the batteries should last 5 years.
The first warning is usually that you get the warning in cold weather.
Once it warms up you may get the rest of that year before the battery actually dies the following winter.
Mine have lasted from Aug07 to now but I am now getting the warning.  :help:

...hmmm...

Does anyone know of if it would be possible to disable the low battery warning - at all - if "one" don't want to refit or just ignore?
Cheers,

According to Cradely Kawasaki the warning can not be disabled, Ive just replaced the batteries in mine and its not as bad as it sounds, honest.

im riding a 2010 gtr now but had a grey 08 before that i bought second hand which suffered the same low batt after been stored all winter, when used a while and the tyre warmed up it stopped doing it and was fine till i got rid of it at the end of that year they are prone to this i think

thats sounds promising  whats involved if you solder yourself? suppose the problem is you need to take the wheel to the dealers or bike shop to have the tyre removed, I'm sure there not going to be to pleased when you say hang on while I solder this new battery in place before you fit the new tyre. unless you have the tyre removing machine suppose you have no choice but to take the dealer to do it. Mr kawasaki as stitched us up on this "me thinks"

My 2009 6000 miler started this nonsense yesterday, It was really cold and the message went away once I had been out for about 20 mins, thought I had a puncture until I read my manual when I got back, Seems crazy that the battery life is so short, my tyres are new, put on just before I bought the bike so they won't need changing for ages, I have the extended warranty 'till 2013, I'll see what happens once the decent weather comes back., only got the bike late last summer, beats my 2004 FJR in just about everything.  Cheers, Donald

I've never had any problem with any of my GTRs...but I can see that it would be very annoying, especially if thge 'problem' occurs just after having tyres fitted.
I suppose it would be a prudent move to replace potentially worn out batteries during a tyre change..

It seems that the life expectancy of batteries isn't directly related to mileage, maybe its more of an age thing ?
