Title: NEC Bike show
Post by: BigAlan on October 03, 2011, 09:03:57 PM
I know some people dont like the Motorcycle show at the NEC but i am one who does, and also one who this year will be gong armed with a credit card for boots, exhaust and poss a new crash helmet, and just to see what else they might put on the GTR.

Damm this bike is fun.

I think the weather last year prevented a lot of folk from getting to the NEC. I couldn't get off our street.

LW, to date you've been advocate of stock gtr exhaust. You planning on replacing it wiv like or an aftermarket number ?

I forgot it was snowy around the bike show last year. Hope it's better this time. I was a guest of the big K, as they introduced me to the Z1000SX. I got in an hour early and everything, it was great. :-) Hoping they do something similar again this year and I'll try and convince them to let me in for free again! I'll let you know if I hear anything...

Last year they sent an e-mail out saying that there were places available for special intros of the Z1000SX and the ZX10R. They happened on different days. Anyway, all you had to do was e-mail in why they should give you tickets and they chose some people to go. I got a pair of tickets. The intro to the bike was an hour before the show started, so we had 30 mins or so (after the bike intro) to wander around with hardly anyone else there. It was bliss. They were lovely hosts for the day too and gave us tea and coffee. :)

Also, it was nice to hear a bit about the bike (I went to the Z1000SX intro), even if it had a marketing slant and get a chance to sit on one not attached to the stand. I'd still quite like to test ride a Z1000SX...

If another e-mail goes out this year, I'll pop it on here with instructions. :)

I'll be there on the 21st or 22nd.
Have booked both days off work so depending on the weather forecast I will decide the day and method of transport on the 20th.  ;D
I need a new lid and summer & winter gloves.
Lid will probably be a Shark Evoline 2 but need to try some others first.

I have to check the dates at work too but looking as though Monday 21st is best for me .... early train from the centre of the universe (  ;D ) then up to the NEC in time for a fat boys breakfast with large tea, and spend all day trying to keep the credit card firmly in my wallet ... I know I know ... it won't work !!!
If a fair number of people are going, all be it on different dates then perhaps within this thread we can make a simple list of name, date and mobile number ... then just ring and meet up. Personally I don't mind who has my mobile number but I if there are those who DO mind then I understand and you could just PM those concerned.
What do yo think ?

Hi regarding NEC,
Me and my other half went last year although they had been heavy snow falling  on the day we still managed to get there and back safely although it was in the car. To our amazement it was very busy and we managed to get a bargain on two new helmets and jackets, but it took most of the day going around all the trade stalls playing one off another but it was worth it. we didnt see much of the show so this year we are going solely for the show not intending to buy anything !!!!!!!! but that could change !!!. We are going on Saturday the 26th if anyone else would like to meet I will gladly post my mobile, but again it will be in the car.

If any of the northern contingent are going on there bikes on Saturday 26th and want to buy a large item(s) have plenty of room in the car and would gladly bring it back up north for them.  :)

I'm really looking forward to this years show, I go every year but last year I walked round for 4 hours in a trance, I had felt ill the day before but thought  I  would be ok when I got to "Brum !!!!!! big mistake I  felt grim all day and the event just passed me bye, and to be honest I was glad to get home, so hoping for better health and a better day than last year. My shopping list includes Gore tex boots, and maybe a new jacket. Happy days ;D

Every year I go, and every year I come away thinking I cannot believe I just paid £25 to get into a big shop. Two weeks later I forget all that, and decide it would be a wonderful day out again.

Marketing man's dream, me  ;)

Test ride zone was good last year, but the Ducati Supermoto thing I booked was a shockingly bad bike.

I think I am going to do the Excel one in February rather than NEC this year, as it clashes with a friend's holiday.

Martin.

Hi Martin,

I absolutely agree, I dont pay an entrance fee to shop at Sainsburys, i dont pay to look around my local dealer, they both know that by showcasing their products/services that I am likely to make a purchase. Show should be free or nominal charge (and free fxxxing parking). I will only go if I am definately making a purchase as I know the show discounts can offset the entrance fee.

Hopefully they'll let you have free tea and coffee on their stand, like I had last year. They also had some doughnuts and things like that kicking around! :D

Well, just heard from Kawasaki, that there are no more free tickets available for the show from them.

However, Kawasaki Riders Club members can sign up to get in early for special preview mornings any morning from Mon 21st Nov - Fri 25th Nov. They only have 20 slots available for each day (I think), some already gone too. You can only get one early entry ticket per member. Also, you must have a valid show ticket for use that day too - so if you haven't got one already, you'll have to buy one.

I'm going with my wife on Wednesday 23rd November. We are both booked to go for the early preview at 9am too. Hoping the weather will suit a ride up.

Let me know if anyone else here signs up for the special preview that day, or are just going that day.

Just printed our tickets off for the show, we are going on the 25th which is on a friday. Two old trouts, plus car park ticket 27 qid, cheap day out I think. We always go in the car as we cant be bothered walking round all day in all our bike gear, plus a three and a half hour ride home in the dark in winter is not my idea of enjoyment. Always enjoy the show and like to be there when the doors open and always stay till the death. ;D

The Ducati promotion girls were lovely  :)

A very good show. The Honda Cross Tourer looks like a bike to keep an eye on. Purchased some Held Warm 'n' Dry gloves for £100. Kawasaki had the 2011 GTR models on display, with the poor panniers kicked to death. Staff more interested in signing you up to the Kawasaki Owners Club than listening to constructive criticism.

Could do with another day there tbh.

Hi All,

For several years ive attended the Bike Show and was a little disappointed with Kawasaki!

In previous years i have to agree ive spent more time at the BMW stand but having purchased my first GTR1400 only 3 weeks ago, after seven BMW's on the trott, i was keen to see the kawasaki bikes, their stand and merchandise. I was approached by a staff member who was only interested in me joining the Kawasaki Owners Club. I had only one question for him about my GTR and that was to do with the Back box on my bike bouncing around like its on a trampoline. All he could do was constantly look over my shoulder and look for the next person to try and persude to join the kawasaki club.

For the second time i asked him if he was aware of a back box problem! he replied that i was the first person to tell him and he didnt really believe that there was an issue. I took him over to the GTR's on the stand and the Green GTR had a rear box on and i put a little pressure on that box and it started to wobble. He went over to one of his colleagues, shoulders started to shrug and that was it! My impression was they were not even interested!!!

So when I left the kawasaki stand i was a little underwhelmed and Its a real shame that feedback isnt taken on board. Some people may think that maybe a question about the rear box isnt that important but i didnt even bother to tell them my pride and joy is back in Kawasaki getting warranty work done on it. (Faulty ECU)

So, am i glad I swapped my BMW,  ::)

I enjoyed the show though and hope you all enjoyed it as well and maybe there will be some positive messages about Kawasaki put on here which i will watch out for with keen interest.

That was my impression as well. All they were interested in were getting you signed up to the Kawasaki Owners Club. As much as I hate to say it, the Honda stand was brilliant. All questions answered, even if it ment the staff having to find someone more knowledgeable than themselves.

A pretty poor effort from Kawasaki. Having said that, my mate said Honda were pretty poor a couple of years ago and they managed to turn it around yesterday.

A lot of showstaff are brought in just for the show, they are usually trained in the model range etc but have no interest in complaints. The only way to complain is through customer service, even then its a lottery.

Aye, that's what it felt like. There's were a lot of people trying out the GTR. They were asking alot of questions which the staff just couldn't answer.   I should have taken some cards with this websites address on them.

Manufactures pay focus groups a fortune for research. Why, when you can use the Internet as a tool and find out what gripes existing owners have. And not having specialist staff at a main show is inexcusable. People aren't just there to have a gander - its an ideal sales platform. I've already Googled for a few bikes that caught my eye at the show.

Amusingly, my wife just signed up (so I could get her into the early entry as well) a couple of weeks ago and they have already sent out a things saying she can renew at the show!

Well Rusty and I went to the exhibition today, (Monday 21st) and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with it. Plenty of stalls, displays and of course bikes!

First things first, we hunted out the German inferior piece of shit technology that is the new BMW.

Well as you can see myself and Mr Wolf had a great time ... brilliant pictures  ! I didn't think it was too busy either, perhaps being a Monday a lot of people are going at the end of the week who knows.
No doubt though if you are after some kit, you may not get a fantastic price ( perhaps on the last day ) but there was a huge amount of choice of just everything bike related.
£19 to get in, £1 cloakroom, £4 brochure , and I thought decent food/coffee/beer etc.. all very clean and tidy.
It has certainly improved over the last few years and I would urge you to get along and have a really good day out.   ;D

Great pics LW and Rusty, looking forward to taking my boy and my two mates who have just passed their CBT, they are are all very excited  ;D

It's a great place to show people how much fun and variety there is biking.

Just to convince the boy he doesn't really want a motorcross bike  8)

Got a pair of pazzo levers for the Monster £110, ( £30 off ) but to keep on the good side of her indoors i bought her a ducati corse tee shirt.

Time to buy some Xmas decorations and wrap them round the bike, I guess.
I'm still missing those lights you see on souped-up boy racer cars.
You know the ones that light up the street underneath.  ::)
No idea what they are supposed to be good for, but they look so cooool. 8)

BTW once you put a number plate on that thing you probably won't be able to see the green lights anyway.

We went on Sunday and was surprised how few people were there compared to 2 years ago. All the same a great day with loads to see and do. Spoke to Tommy Hill for a few minutes (real nice lad), and bought a few odds and ends.

I really REALLY wanted to go.
Had booked the day (Monday) off work and everything.
On Sunday night the brake master cylinder in my car decided to die on me.  :( (yes, I did need new underwear!)
Gonna cost about £700 to replace it and some of the hoses so decided I could no longer afford a new lid, or anything else for that matter. So on Monday I stayed at home and tidied up the garage a bit.  :( :(
Life sh!ts on me from a great height once again! Bloody cars!

I've always fancied pimping my ride with a few lights. It's totally not like me at all!

What I actually fancy doing is rigging up a set of red lights where these green ones are to come on when I brake, so I light up the whole back of the bike when I hit the brakes. Should make sure people see I'm braking...

Yup, they won't see ya because they ain't looking.
Even though I have high-level brake lights (in the top box) on both my bikes (see my website) I once avoided a tail-ender by squeezing between the car in front and the lorry alongside.
The moron in the car behind plowed into the car in front and luckily pushed him sideways away from me. If I hadn't seen him coming I would be Boomer paste!
Moron was on the phone when he hit and when the cops arrived they cuffed him.  ;D
Personally I would have liked to see them beat him up a bit as he was a mouthy arsehole.  :D
Yup, I needed clean undies that time too.

Couple of pics from NEC

Plenty of flshing lights on this one!

Pity a forward leaning ride position doesnt suit me, but made me wonder what that extra 50bhp would be like!

Did I really used to have one of these?  (the CBF  not PAM!)

and Pam got a tiny glimpse in to life on the front seat!
