Title: Proposal For Regular Northern Meets.
Post by: 100milesaway on February 10, 2012, 09:46:27 PM
:185: Slane glad you have thought fit to join us, lots of gossip, help, and advice if needed, and a bit of a giggle along the way. Lots of my biking buddies come from in and around Bolton, and I meet them most Sundays up at the "Bridge" At Kirby Lonsdale. As Kwikas suggests maybe  The Northern based lads should meet for a day out.  :listencarefully: Enjoy   cheers Geoff

I'd be up for a monthly Northern meet, (work permitting) if you want to organise that Geoff.

yeah cummon ...get yer finger out...a northern meet is a MUST DO

How about the Bridge Sunday 19th February....there that wasn't too difficult was it  :whistling:
Title: Re: Re: new guy
Post by: 100milesaway on February 11, 2012, 09:59:10 AM
Yes 19th FEB sounds great!!!!!!!!!! BUT is that a good idea whilst we are in the grip of this really nasty spell of weather. I can picture the scene at the "Bridge" 2 Inches deep in snow and ONE of us out of the SIX that said they were "AVIN IT" stood eating an egg & bacon butty on his odour cologne, bellowing out what a bunch of W :censored: the other 5 turned out to be.  :hammer: Plus if the weather is a steaming pile of poo I can see us just having a chin wag, then toddling off home with no trip out together involved. So I think the best option would be to wait a few weeks until the weather is better so that we can have a PROPER  meet, and a day out riding motorcycles together. Just my thoughts.   Please discuss. :001_icon16:

I'm open to suggestions, and I proposed the 19th as the weather up here is currently snowy and icy, but warmer weather is forecast for next week, and so I thought the 19th might be the first sensible date (plus I'm keen to get out on the bike)

Obviously if the weather and road conditions haven't improved by the 19th then it would make sense to postpone the meet, I guess we'll know nearer the time.

Any Saturday/Sunday (even some midweek days too ! ) in the coming months is fine by me,,, we can meet, eat and talk bollox probably all at the same time  :mfr_lol:

We seem to have Hi-jacked this thread

I managed to get out for a couple of hours today. Damn cold, I had a ride over to Saddleworth, Denshaw and out towards Holmfirth. Not the best ride I've ever had, I think I was a bit wary of the ice and freezing fog, but nevertheless at least it gave me an opportunity to get out before I go back to work tomorrow.

Everybody meets at the "Bridge" and it can be a bit predictable.  :sleep1:

Why not meet somewhere else like up at the Manor Cafe, Leyburn, http://www.manor-cafe.co.uk/ (http://www.manor-cafe.co.uk/) It would still take me a good 1-1/2 hrs to get there but it's worth the ride and there are some beautiful roads in that neck of the woods.

The cafe has now reopened after the winter break.

What about Squires ( used to be called Milk Bar) at Sherburn in Elmet near york ( jct 42 A1) great place for bikers over the years, really big place, good for a meal or just a drink, got a bike accessory shop, always has bike racing on big screen TVs, can get busy in summer upto 500 bikers turn up on a saturday or sunday.
Title: Re: Proposal For Regular Northern Meets.
Post by: Lonewolf on February 12, 2012, 10:53:14 PM
Zed, yep thats still a popular biker meet. Its not what it used to be though, I like to support new businesses that why the Manor cafe appeals to me but I'm open to any suggestion.
Title: Re: Proposal For Regular Northern Meets.
Post by: viper on February 12, 2012, 11:37:04 PM
much prefer squires to the manor cafe, if you have not been to MC then obviously check it out, be rude not to.
We've been once , rude staff, carpark was a mess , only 4 tables outside and the toilets we voted the 2nd worst we'd ever seen after the 1st place winner in peru one year.

Title: Re: Proposal For Regular Northern Meets.

Squires would be ok for me...it is 100 + miles each way though ..obviously it depends on what date is in mind

Post by: Lonewolf on February 13, 2012, 07:56:50 AM
That's too far then, you can't expect someone to travel 200 miles to and from a bike meet!

just a thought but there always a motorway services somewhere that we could meet , that way we all arrive at a destination at same time , should turn a few heads as well that way
Plus there Rivi barn as another suggestion

Where is the ponderosa ? never been but heard it ok.

Never heard of Rivi Barn, assuming its this place, http://www.rivingtonhallbarn.co.uk/index.asp (http://www.rivingtonhallbarn.co.uk/index.asp) it looks good, possibly even a bit posh! Fifty two miles from home for me.

Seems a reasonable compromise though as a meeting point, dont mention Ponderosa to 2kwacks, I think he lives there!   :mfr_lol:

I'll do Rivington Barn but not this weekend, cos Saturday is my lads 21st birthday bash, and I just might have a sherbert or two.
And it's not posh but it is good. You can get babies head and chips with gravy! For you midlanders that's steak pudding, chips and gravy, for you southerners, naaa you wouldn't understand.

 I dont want to be a dismal johnny, but I hate rivetless barn. When I lived in Lancashire I went twice and thought it was  :shit: :listencarefully: it was  :shit:. Since I ventured over the border into gods own country I have become intolerent of any kind of traffic , motorways, :sleep1: and most A roads . Thats why "The Bridge" has become the mecca for bikers. All around in any direction, and for mile upon mile there is everything a motorcyclist needs, with the added bonus of spectacular scenery. So it would be the "Bridge" for me with lunch in Middleton in Teesdale.

Devil's Bridge (via Hartside and back via Stanhope and Corbridge) is one of my favourite runs in summer and I guess for you guys from the South and West a nice destination even in winter.
But this time of year coming from the North East I wouldn't want to go via Hartside or Stanhope because of probable snow and/or ice on the hills.
Going for an over 100 miles ride on mainly boring roads just to stand around freezing in a car park for an hour or so and then back again isn't really my idea of fun on the weekend.

That's fine by me....is 11.00 am suitable for those planning to go ?

How about we keep an eye on the weather and if it looks like its going to be miserable then we can make a decision on Saturday

And please note that there are 40mph speed cameras surrounding the junction of the A65 and A683 as shown on the map that Andy kindly posted

hope your mate dose not have a trade in, millenium give a really low p/x price, and still expect top price for there bikes. they have some very nice bikes there. but you need to buy without p/x so you can haggel over the price, they work on knocking £500 of screen price if you have no p/x  p.s what model is your mate after and what size? sorry to hear you can't make it on sunday, but when the weather picks up we will try to arrange a meet at the ponderosa  hope I i've more luck than last year with that thou!

If you are buying from Millenium or any of the MotoGB Group, look at the service book very carefully. Their adverts all say with 5 service stamps, or whatever. What they don't say is the book is stamped but the service may or may not have been done. They took my last bike in which was dealer serviced at the first service only and then serviced the next three times by yours truly. Their for sale advert for my bike on  their website said with 5 dealer service stamps. Just be careful that's all I am saying and ask for evidence of servicing such as receipts, and don't rely on their service book.

Is there a plan for tomorrow, the events manager, 100milesaway doesn't seem too forthcoming with the itinerary does he? Are we just meeting up at the Bridge for a bite to eat and chat or are we going to Leyburn for a suprise buffet courtesy of the events manager at his house. :mfr_lol:

So as I stated earlier I will watch the forecast later and decide what to do. My problem is the fact that I have to negotiate two moorland roads, and past experience tells me you dont want to be up there when it has been -6 the night before because it's always full of ice  If i do "av It" my plan was to have a chin wag, then go up to Middleton in Teesdale for lunch  :chef: Anyway my palatial mansion is always open to GTR riders should they require re energizing with tea and biscuits

that's a fair comment steve! "it's only rain" when I first got married and was starting off. I rode 72 miles round journey from home to work in all weathers including ice, snow, pissing down rain and gale force winds for over 5 years untill I could afford a car  and being soak all the time as took it's toll :sad:and now suffer from bad rheumatism if I get wet or to cold it can takes weeks to ease off. i'm a bit smarter now! i've the proper gear  but I don't find it fun riding bikes in the rain. bikes for nice days, cars for bad days. going out in the rain on a bike when you have a car is like owning a dog and barking yourself

OK OK OK  If you turn at the garage down Middleham rd second turning on the right you will see a huge castle like building facing you on the hillside, it has a gate house, and an infra red entry system  After passing through the main gate, follow the gravel drive for about a quarter of a mile, then go left at the portcullis. Continue along the tree lined avenue, past the deer park, and golf course. You will then see in all its splendour a massive mansion in Yorkshire stone.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, from a Southern poof, when you talk about up norff, how far up are we talking about?

I've been told by work, that there is a 60-75% chance of me and SWMBO having to move to Leeds.

We previously thought anything further than Watford was North and we are in cambridge at the moment.  :mfr_lol:

Look on the bright side if you move North you can then ride out with the BIG lads

Roger it was lovely to meet you and the other lads and lass. But NOBODY went to Slaidburn, And I must confess it was probably my fault that it didn't happen. In my infinite wisdom I decided on the short route, as I got the impression that most of the lads didn't want to be out all day. The road I chose whilst in the main was dry, was also full of ICE  where water had run across and at that time had not thawed. unfortunately one of the lads had a bit of a moment that spoilt the day. So the decision was made to turn around and get back to the main road.So the ride out aspect of the day was spoilt for every one especially Mr Lamin, and I hope that there was not too much damage to the bike, and to everyone else for the crap decision of mine to use that road. :embarrassed:

As for the ride out and the incident, it was one of those unfortunate things. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Personally, I was up for going so if there is any blame its shared.

Geoff, (and the rest of the gang), I truely felt for Lamin, it could have happened to any of us. Hopefully it will be an easy fix for him and I do hope that it doesn't put him off a future visit to the Bridge or ride out with us in the very near future.  I can confirm though that the GTR is a very heavy bike and it took four of us to get it out of the moorland and back onto the road!

It was great to see a few new faces though, thanks to all those who attended.

Now I'm confused

Probably cause I'm getting on to 64 as well

From my memory there was:

GTRNev
Olde Coney
Lonewolf
2wacks
Lamin
100milesaway
Slane (and GF)
and yours truly

Looks like I missed someone. Am I getting old?

Nah, Nah, Nah....you're all wrong  :whistling:

ICE BREAKER was/is Slanes Pillion.. Jackie

Am I right, or am I right Slane....?

It really was great to see everyone, and I'm sure that no-one blames anyone, it seems that it was one of those things and its good to see that there were plenty willing hands available to help, thats what biking is all about after all, thankfully there was little or no damage to rider or bike...and  that's what matters

Geoff. great to meet you too and everyone else....

Roll on the next sunny day (without Ice) [/b]
