Cash cow or fair legislation?
Thoughts please?
I know it'll change some of my riding, used to think ride to situation and circumstances to make good progress, now you're measured by salary!     :censored:

In flanders we pay 50€ for the first 10 kms/hr riding too hard, Eg riding 38 where 30 is allowed
Then above those first 10 kms/ hr we pay 10€/kms/hr above, eg riding 46 where 30 is allowed makes 50+60=110
Still too much, but yours are vvvvveeeerrryyyy high.... Pfff

Be carefull when biking in flanders : from january 2017 riding on national roads where there are no signs is now only 70kms/hr instead of 90 before... !!
many grtz ;-

As a trucker I see folks speeding every hour of the day.  I've seen really bad accidents and sometime wonder if it was speeding that caused it??.

I know what a mate of mine will say....don't speed.

whilst its true there are changes theyre not quite as dramatic as most of the press are making out, unless you get caught at the high end that is O:-)

Helps if you compare the old & existing guidelnes side by side , (here's one I put together to make it easier   LINKY)

Yes if you get caught at over 51mph in a 30 zone the penalty could be higher but at 35mph it remains the same, the £100 was (& remains) a minimum, the multipliers were always there for aggravating factors if it went to court

Doing 50 in a 30 is never safe , where as 100 on a quiet motorway if there is one , is safe as long as you are driving to the conditions , bad driving is what causes accidents not good drivers useing some speed, people that drive everywhere at 40mph are as bad as the ones that are speeding , here in northyorkshire they are getting more and more of these small speed camera vans they seem to be everywhere  ,any one coming this way be extra careful ,  :biker3:

As we need to keep to the limits do we need 1400cc?

Errr.... have we ever NEEDED 1400cc's..........
I came, I saw, I rode off....

Ok, laws made about using mobile devices, how often do you see this and how many prosecutions are you aware of?
Laws made over staying in left hand lane when no reason, again how often have you seen and how many prosecutions are you aware of?
Laws over worn tyres, seat belts, again how often have you seen and how many prosecutions are you aware of?
All great ideas.......but how are ever enforced?   :censored:
Yet those lovely "safety partnership" vans who clock drivers just over the speed limit in areas deemed near to "hazards" ( a bridge over a motorway????? FFS!), love to know how many times they've paid for themselves!
So, the scrote in the uninsured, dustbin tail-piped skip of a vehicle whose on benefits pays a pittance.
Yet those who have worked hard, maintain their vehicle and have achieved a good standard of living on a good salary gets a kicking!
Sorry, but yes I am grieved, on my high horse,  :gun_bandana: and yes, I have a need for 1400cc bike, and a diesel car, if I could afford it I'd have a bl**dy  :tank: to ensure if any idiots out there do hit me I won't be totalled!
Off for a blast!

Dick Slow.....sorry Snow,!

That's not entirely correct is it? There are so many other factors to consider before you even introduce the element of speed where you may consider something is not safe. Speed in itself is not inherently dangerous, it's a case of what other elements are there to consider which are present before you have to acknowledge that travelling at the speed you are doing becomes so hazardous and therefore not appropriate or justified in the circumstances.

As an ex traffic Cop I've driven at the limits a car can drive in respect of speed, did I ever feel it was dangerous, no I didn't, otherwise I simply wouldn't have done it. Have I ever driven in excess of 50mph in a 30 limit, of course I have, I would suggest daily, did I ever consider it dangerous, absolutely not.

Of course there are some nuggets who should never be granted a licence for anything mechanical, or even electrical that is capable of being taken on the highway but to state that doing 50 in a 30 is never safe, is I'm afraid totally inaccurate.

There are times that doing 20 in a 30 isn't safe

But do we need a bike that does 150. Probably not. A bike that does 100mph would be enough as it would cruise nicely at legal speeds.

I certainly don't need a bike that does 150.   I have had it up to 100 when no one was looking but me (worried about deer popping out in front of me though as it was a heavily wooded area on a four lane highway) just to see how it felt.  I do appreciate the acceleration when I need to pass someone quickly or get up to speed in a short amount of time.  I've never been one to grossly exceed speed limits on straight  roads.  Instead I like to push the twisties as much as I can.  The GTR is excellent in that respect and if I have to buy a bike with power to do 150 to get my adrenaline going on twisties or straight line acceleration then so be it.  The lesser bikes can probably do this as well but don't have the power available when I need it.  I've rode BMWs and hated them profusely for their lack of power.  One gets spoiled you know.

With that being said for the GTR, I am making a change in my riding style and foregoing the 'power' of the GTR to something a bit more sedate in my eyes..the Indian Roadmaster.  I've found it can go fast and corner but I really don't care to do so anymore.  I'm slowing down.   I rarely go 5 over the speed limit and most times I'm actually abiding it.  Getting close to retirement and I feel I just don't need to go faster to get somewhere.  It is amazing how many do want to get some place quick, though.
