If I want to "feel" like I'm going faster without actually going faster I just lower the screen

And therein lies part of  the "issue" , bikes likethe GTR (and my Blackbird previously) are (almost) designed to sit at speed. They are (in my experience) both extremely smooth and comfortable cruisingat a steady 130ishmph over extended stretches with plenty (more so in the case of the bird) in the pocket

Maybe we should outlaw fairings on motorbikes, all riders would then be self limiting..................................................

1400 - forget the speed!
I just want to get from A to B, with pillion and associated touring luggage  in the comfiest and easiest way possible on a motorcycle.
That's why I have the GTR, it may be old (08) but still does it superbly, with plenty in reserve when I need it.
Better than my VFR800, Bandit 1200, K1200RS, BMW R1200GS, or Super10 imho.
So 1400 is for me, if I want to break a speed limit it could easily be done on pushbike the way 20 mph's are being enforced upon us!
As stated earlier - "There are times that doing 20 in a 30 isn't safe".
My main issue with this new legislation is there are worse offenders (texting whilst driving, or even using a mobile) with more dangerous implications than using excess speed when situations allow.
We should all be re-assed as "competent to drive" every 5 years anyway, that would make the roads dramatically safer!

As for the blast mentioned earlier, got drowned by a flash storm but superb price obtained for plug change and shim check.......thats's better!

Speed never killed anyone. It is impact and or the sudden deceleration that damages the internal organs that is the problem. LOL http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/Smileys/default/clap.gif

I think the only benefit of a large bike is if you are large yourself(I am) . The kind of power being Produced is not necessary  and in the wrong hands downright dangerous. In the real world 70/ 80 horses are enough something like a Versys 650 is probably all you need.

Surely impact force is increased in direct proportion to the speed at which you are travelling

Tried a Versys 650 as a loan bike when mine was in for warranty work.
Yes, goes well enough, very agile, but after 45 minutes I had to get off, too vibey!
That's why I have the 700GS now as an 'everyday' commuter and run-around, so much easier on the ageing frame than the baby Versys ever was.
GTR, how often do I go above 4,000 rpm? No need! Low and torquey, that's my style! :punk:
No substitute for capacity or cubic inches, or so the wife tells me!
