Yeah, I'm bored today and cant make my mind up where I want to go out for a ride. I'm going to head out initially towards Here for 12:30 if anyone else is at a loose end today and wants to meet up. I know its very short notice but there you go.  ;D

Get out on your bike. Beautiful day here.

Yesterday I deliberately took the long way home. Ended up being a 2 hour detour.

Likewise - very bored and I was also wondering what to do and where to go to but Manor Bikers Cafe is a tad too far for me

Enjoy the ride

Well back from the Manor Cafe. I didnt know it had only been open 11 weeks. Not a bad place all in all but I can see their parking area becoming hectic at times when there are bike meets there. Decent food and quickly served too, this place would probably make a good meeting place for any Northern members who fancied meeting up.

It took me about an hour and twenty minutes to get there so a bit of a haul for a meet but there are some decent roads on route and its in the same village as Geoff, aka (100milesaway) should we need a place to stay as he lives in a ten bedroomed detached mansion in Leyburn.  ;D ;D

Well signposted off the main road.

Only me there at one point.

And then there were two.

Small brewery company next door where you could probably buy direct some special brews, not to be confused with 'Special Brew'.

This place opposite the Manor Cafe but within the same car park do bike MOT's, fit tyres, have a rolling road etc, http://www.automoto-racing.co.uk/

The Manor cafe is a dedicated purpose built bikers cafe and that is evident as soon as you enter the place. I picked up a small A5 booklet, (it was free I didn't steal it) ;) its called Bikers Guide to North Yorkshire and its produced by The York & North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership. Some useful info inside the booklet, from bike care, First Bike on Scene courses, bike prep, group riding, a number of bike routes in the area with stats on how safe they are, traffic offences info, crash data info, info on Bikesafe, www.bikesafe.co.uk and lastly a poem which I've copied and placed below should you wish to read it.

I'll tell you, as I cant tell my boy
Enjoy your bike, but it's not a toy
Full of power, it takes you to high speed
But, just for me, think, is there really a need?
The bends are there, ride them with skill
Stay on your side, so only time you kill
The crests, the lines, the open road
My lad saw them and sped when he should have slowed
Full leathers and helmet didn't save my son
I'm left now, another grieving Mum
If not for yourself, ride carefully for them
Your loved ones, who want to see you again
Enjoy riding but dont push boundaries aside
Dont make today the day of your last ride.

What would you rather be   or a wasp?

100milesaway

Yes I have been a few times, problem is it too near to home as it,s only about half a mile from our front door, what I usually do is meet some mates up at "The Bridge""( Kirby Lonsdale) go for a ride out and then incorparate a visit to the "Manor" on the way back to the bridge,as that,s always where we end up regardless of where we have been. I must say I,m really pleased for Simon the owner as he saw a gap in the market and the" Manor" is the result, which is pretty much the same thing that he did with Auto moto racing, which is shown it your pictures, when I moved here 6 years ago I was really worried about getting anything done on the bikes, so when I discovered his place I really could not believe my luck, I never use anyone else as Simon does the lot including tyres, plus he is a very nice human being, so good luck to him with the new venture. ;D

Lonewolf

I didnt know both businesses were run by one and the same. The only very slight criticism I could possibly offer is the driveway off the main road to the cafe could do with being tarmac rather than loose stone chippings. Maybe thats something they'll look at in the future.

Rusty

Perhaps you would like to contribute to the cost Mr Wolf ?? ;D ;D

100milesaway

Yes point taken but Simon did think it through and did actually lay the tarmac (ish) strip which would give bikes something half decent to pass over, but didn't want to make it road surface smooth because if you notice just as you  turn in off the main road there is a bungalow on the left hand side and the people who live there have young kids and whilst they are all for the cafe they wouldn't take kindly to people using the approach as a drag strip, so I think in the end common sense prevailed.

Lonewolf

Yeah, that makes perfect sense to me.  :)

Checked the place out today and promptly ran into 100milesaway. I reckon the ice cream is a bit over priced (1 tiny scoop for £1.80 :o) but otherwise a good spot for a pit stop, meeting other bikers and then carry on through the Dales. I ended up going via Sedbergh and Stanhope back to Newcastle. Very nice scenery but in places just to many sheep on the road for my liking.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

Lonewolf

You get used to the sheep and learnt to anticipate their body language, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! ;D

mecki

If there were a competition for the dumbest animal on the planet sheep would definitely win ;D ;D
