Or eighteen thousand seven hundred and fifty mile service as the handbook says, can anyone recall what this service cost you? Looking at the handbook there isn't a lot that actually needs doing, most of its inspect only, it doesn't even state there is an oil or oil filter change etc.

Only reason I ask is that mine is due and I have had quite a high quote today from a dealer, I was wondering if they had got the service mixed up with the next one which I think is a big one.

If I recall the 18/19k service was just oil and filter.  The big one was the next one and it was expensive because it was the head off and shims checking.

You maybe thinking of the 15k service there , as it does seem, according to the book, that absolutely nothing is changed, only checked !  :undecided:  seems a little pointless having one at that mileage unless you like to change the oil every 3k, which isn't a bad thing i guess.  :surrender:

I was quoted £400 for the 19k service, they must have misunderstood which service I was looking for. Going to call them back in the morning.

Steve ... Ask Asif to look at my old paperwork ... I think it's a 16000 mile service and it was cheapish ... Just to get you ready for the big one at 24000 ... Oils and filters and labour ...£130 or somewhere around that mark. .... I think !  :undecided:

Is that plus VAT ?

I would be concerned if its a Kwak agent making that mistake. I'll only expect that for a valve check service at 24k !

When mine is due, probably by the end of the year, it will go to the FJR club workshop, Fudge Motorcycles, cheaper than anywhere else, warranty maintained and will be done right.

I think the valve check is quite tricky if you've never done it before, so best left to those that know i feel.....not something i'd attempt anyway.    :sweatdrop: :surrender:

Yeah I don't mind paying £400 for the big service but as you said, virtually everything for the 19k service is check only, it doesn't even state they will change the oil.

I seem to remember my dealer saying that the 3,750 mile service is charged at two hours, as kawasaki recommend that brakes are stripped fully at that time, as well as the incidental "checks" in the book. Mine (at around 3,500 miles) also included an oil and filter change, as it was due on a time basis.

Rusty

Steve .... You are in for a big shock then " if I don't mind paying £400 for the big service " .... Weeks before I sold the Gtr it was booked in for the 24000 mile service ... And I went to the dealer to speak to the mechanics ... They were surprised to have a customer who was actually going to have such a big job done. I was a bit of a celebrity for a while.... The mechanic chap said it was mostly labour as the entire fairing comes off and they do all sorts of things but he assured me it would be " as sweet as a nut " .. Which it was anyway ..... About £750 is what I was looking at.

Just has the 18k done on the K16 (6c 24v) which is the big one.  £380 (at BMW prices :whistling:) which makes ownership cheaper than my old Kwak  :innocent:

Chris, surely ownership costs must also include the initial purchase cost  :whistling:

I rang them back and yes they quoted me correctly apparently but did offer to reduce it to £260 if I didn't want the shims doing. I'm a bit confused if I'm honest as the service book states for the 19k mile service it doesn't need anything, everything is check only. They said they would do an oil change, air filter change and clean out the callipers which to be fair is good practice and something I would want doing in any case.
It still seems a bit steep to me. A local dealer has said they will do the service for £160 but I can probably do it a bit cheaper myself and then just keep the receipts to prove that the work has been done.

It's an option anyway.

Shims aren't due until the next one, unless it's the age they're going on
