More like overdue after 9 years, change it for peace of mind... after 9 years you have definitely had your moneys worth out of it

I think the fob battery gives "transponder battery low" or similar

Just ordered a New battery ,  no point having it let me down in the middle of a trip ,

I had the low battery warning, bike would turn over but not start. I tested the battery and found that it was discharged, around 11.9V. After an overnight trickle charge, the battery voltage was 12.7V - the bike would again turn over but not start. I connected a jumper battery and the bike started no problem.
Long story short, the bike battery (less than 2 years old) would accept a charge but would not get over 12.7V, when cranking, the voltage dropped to 11V or less and the bike would just not start.

A new lithium battery fitted and everything is hunky dory - no more low battery warning and the bike starts immediately, just as it always did.
As a bonus, the new lithium battery is smaller so allows ample room for the wiring from an optimate  and fuse holder.

I only have a multimeter so wasn't able to test the battery  properly which would no doubt have shown up the fault a bit quicker than all the faffing around charging it, the optimate didn't show it up as faulty by the way.

What battery did you fit for future reference

The battery on my 1400 GTR failed without warning when the bike was 18 months old. My Ducati ST2 did the same - just out of first year warranty where the battery would have been covered, it suddenly went flat and would not respond to a charge.

I did begin to question whether manufacturer fitted batteries are made to the same specification as their replacements. Certainly this seems to be the case with tyres, where replacements of the same brand provide much better performance than those fitted from new.
