A friend of mine suffered a break down in his (modern) car last week, whilst on a busy dual carriageway some 60 miles from home. He managed to continue to the nearest service area and called his breakdown service (a major national) who attended quite quickly.

They declared the car undriveable on arrival and said that they would send for a recovery vehicle to move it to his home. They also told him that he could not travel in the recovery vehicle himself, due to Coronavirus restrictions, and would have to make his own way home.

He did not receive any warning from his service provider of this change to their operations, and presumably it is likely to affect all that offer this service in a similar way?

This seems to be an area of serious concern to me, for those of us that travel distances particularly.

Sounds to me like they need to advise their customers asap. What if your friend had been a woman with 3 kids or elderly & vulnerable? They should be providing onward travel for both vehicle AND driver.

It could be that that was down to the individual recovery person who came out. If they are classed as vulnerable because of underlying health issues, they would be perfectly within their rights to decline someone from climbing in the cab with them.

Which recovery company was it. You don't have to name them in full. Just confirm, did it start with an A or an R   :mfr_lol:

unacceptable , provisions could and should be made to help customers in this situation......gloves, masks and screen inside the recovery vehicle come to mind
