Nitty Gritty

Hi Everyone,
I know there is no bigger turn off than an appeal for shekles, but here's the pitch.
To me this forum is really useful for a multitude of reasons and deserves to be on a secure financial footing going forward. As the inevitable decline in membership follows a decline in new GTR sales. It makes sense to highlight the need for funds for the forum to exist.  I have no idea of the financial status of the forum, but it appears from the Donations target, the forum requires approx. £35 a month to pay it's way.
I therefore suggest as many of the regular contributers and end users of the forum make some form of monthly donation to ensure the forums financial future.
I suggest it wouldn't take many users donating a £1.00 a month to quickly attain the £35 a month requirement and wouldn't put anyone under too much financial strain.
This is an unsolicited appeal for those that can, to make as I have done, a small standing order to keep the forum on a secure financial footing, as membership will probably decrease for a while as new GTR sales decline.
Any build up of funds could be used to finance a meet up or donation towards a bike related charity.
Cheers,
Nitty Gritty

Many thanks for starting this thread.

Part of the running costs are accrued by people paying the extremely nominal amount to sell stuff on here....the only problem is that a small minority seem to ignore the thread asking for a whopping £2 donation per ad which is disappointing.

Ah, I wondered what the flurry of emails notifying me about donations stemmed from!

Thanks Nitty Gritty for raising this.

Just for perspective:

The forum has been running for about 10 years now

so 120 months @ £35 = £4200 in running costs

I'm guessing maybe up to 20% is funded through donations and revenue generated from placing ads.

So really this site is a labour of love. My business brain says no, my heart says yes.

There are cheaper hosting options available, something that I may look at when I get some free time. I have tried them in the past, and most of the cheaper ones have been pants.
