Afternoon all, as a newbie to this forum, I apologise for my first post being a cry for help, but unfortunately I can't solve my problem so I'm hoping one or two members may be able to assist.

I recently installed a new battery after the previous one had completely died (after a long period of no riding, due to a shoulder injury), but every time I start up, I get an error message telling me the battery is low, which I know is not the case - it starts first time, every time so clearly has plenty of charge in it. I've taken the battery out to check for any loose connections or wires, but can't find anything, so I can only assume it's some other electrical fault, or I'm missing something obvious (which wouldn't be the first time) but I don't know where to look - any suggestions ?

Cheers,

Al

Just in case I'm not reading you right, you did change the battery in the fob ? 'Transponder low battery' means low, the bike will still start and run, so it could be the replacement fob battery is old or partially charged.

No doebag, I haven't changed the battery in the fob and never even give that a thought (in fact I didn't realise that's what it meant) - bloody hell, all that time I've spent looking for the problem and it wasn't even on the bike, lol

Thanks very much doebag, you're a lifesaver

Not a problem, "I've taken the battery out to check for any loose connections or wires" was a clue.
Do you not have an owners handbook for the bike.?

Yeah, but I only checked the battery section - I've just checked the handbook now and there it is, in all it's glory, haha (how thick am I ?)

Thanks again

The official replacement is a CR2016 battery but a CR2032 will fit and will give you a much longer life.  Most supermarkets sell either

CR2025 is the specified battery I believe.

Correct, though the thicker size will fit.

I stand corrected.  I was working from memory, but i've only ever fitted 2032s

Hi,

I just got the FOB Battery low warning too but I'm in France at the moment.

Does it give you a bit of warning or is it pretty history when the warning hits?

I'm here for another week, I'm in a pretty quiet part of Brittany, I could try to locate a battery if needs be, but if I can get another week then I'll do it when I get home.

I have the spare with me if needs be too, but it is a bit of a pain in the ass.

Clearly its all relative to how much you use it but I'm only here for another week.

Tks

I noticed last week  that SuperU and Intermarche both stock these batteries, so shouldn't be a problem to get one (or 2)

Had the dreaded Transponder Low Battery warning on my commute home on Wednesday - Stopped at Timson's at the local Tesco and the guy swapped the battery for £3 (I suspect that was a cash discount - but still.....)

For those new who aren't aware on  GTR if you put the square hole on the fob ( when key removed)
Onto the black lug/knob on the steering column this will override the flat fob and start the bike 👍.
I swop mine yearly it's only pennies 👌

Split the fob, put new battery in snap back shut ,,simples

Yup, the Super U closest to us had the right battery model available, rather than to suffer the flashing incessant messages, I replaced it and all good.

I couldn't remember the clear combination to get rid of the message.  Then when I did the permanently on red light was too annoying.
