Hi All
how much should I expect to pay for the big service (28k miles) any ideas?
Here for a good time, not along time

PRD

Mine was about £700 but included new brake pads. Several shims were replaced as well.

I pay £20 for a oil and filter , do it my self , everything on this bike is easy to do , if you want to do shims then take off all the plastics and find a good independent £200 max , how people part with £700 which when you come to sell will make bugger all diffrence to the price you get ,, these bikes are bullet proof and with just oil and filter changes ,plus diff will go for ever , what dealers charge for simple swop of bits is a joke ,  watch the vids on YouTube it really is easy to do ,  it's not like the old days where you had to balance carbs set points , its just a swap of oil and filters , pads are only held in by a couple of clips ,  go on. Have a go  :biker3:

+1
get a grip and deal with it

Always service my own bikes now. I've never received a better price whether it's been dealer serviced or I have serviced it. Dealers use guide prices for part exchanges. Up to you the buyer to decide what or how much you are willing to part with to change bikes.
It helps that I'm an engineer by trade and I do have comprehensive tools of my own but most tasks are doable if your willing to read up on it and have a go.

I was quoted this kind of figure + £170+ for a rear TPS by Cradley Heath kawasaki.
So I P/X the bike against a 64 plate with just over a 1000 on the clock   :mfr_lol:

I did the basics, oil, filter, air filter, general lube etc, then use a very friendly local bike man who checked shims, changed coolant and plugs ( I supplied NGK irridiums') and supply and fit new rocker cover gasket as weeping, all for around £300, and then stamped the service book stating what he did to show "big" items had been done!
Taylor Brothers Motorcycles at Haughton, near Stafford - Julian is ex-Kawasaki trained (C.G. Chell in the multi franchise days), might be out yer way but highly recommended!
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

Oil and filter are one thing. Shims are a whole different ball game.

People part with £700 because (a) they're letting a professional do the job, complete with redress if they bugger anything up, (b) they get a stamp in their service book, and (c) if you're selling privately, the stamp and the receipt for the full top-end service will make a difference to the final sale price.

I have a mate who owns/runs a bike shop. He is paid for his time, not for ease/difficulty of the job. And if you ride in on your GTR, you can be sure that he'll charge an hour for stripping all the plastics and another hour for putting them all back on again.

Cheers

:agree:
That's what I find strange, removed as much plastic as I could before taking mine to local spanner, who then asked me why, as he does all work from front, behind radiator and sides, so that was shims, plugs, rocker gasket and coolant! Didn't have to remove OEM crash bars either!
Suppose that's what we pay for, experience and hourly rate of workshop!
Any main franchise seems to be £100 per hour inc VAT nowadays!
Experienced locals get my vote!

When I had my last service done ( only a small one ) they informed me the next one is more involved and the crash bars will need removing ether by me or a couple of hrs labour by the dealer .
It was a ball ache fitting them so they can have the pleasure when the time comes and any problems they can resolve
