I will be compiling a short write up soon with a couple of photos. But, as pointed out by Wolf, I have work commitments and last week a Scout camp that have occupied every moment of my waking life since returning from the epic meet. Patience fellow GTR owners

Thanks Rob, when you have got time, that should appease the children

Pete, at this rate our write up will be published before theirs!  :whistling:

O.C.

You make it sound like an 'us and them ' scenario, when in reality we are all part of the same group/forum

Steve, Bob has already stated that he will post a report as soon as he can

You and Pete seem to be hell bent on stirring the pot and for the life of me I can't see what is to be gained from that behaviour     :whistling:

I'm not stirring the pot. Genuinely interested as to who went, hotel ride outs etc.

Roger we're only teasing you and trying to get you to bite which you do each time. It's a bit of banter, chillax, you're so serious with everything  :mfr_lol:

To say that its all banter and a bit of fun is a cop out (pun intended) and just an excuse. The art of teasing and winding people up is to know when to stop Steven, I have already received a totally inaccurate and personally offensive communication via Facebook messenger (which you are aware of), and so it really isn't surprising that I bite when I'm confronted with more of the same...enough is enough.

Knowing when something is no longer funny or appropriate is knowing when to stop, as Global Moderator I would that you expect you are already aware of this.

I have responded openly on the forum rather than by P.M so that others can see where I stand on the matter, I'm not asking for agreement to or support of my position by the way.

I do have a serious side but predominantly an extremely amiable and friendly relaxed style, to which all people who know me will testify, so to say "I'm so serious with everything" is completely inaccurate, additionally you have known me personally for long enough to recognise this fact.

I do not intend to continue this exchange as there is nothing more left to say which is constructive, so, as far as I'm concerned, the matter is now closed.

I now hope that normal service can be resumed, and that this post remains within the thread on the forum !

GTR Owners meeting 2017
Having joined the GTR forum to be able to meet like-minded owners and join up for the occasional ride, it was with some excitement that I signed up to go to the annual meet which this year was to be based at Snape in North Yorkshire. After consulting with SHMBO it was agreed that she and my daughter would go up in her VW T5 van whilst I escorted my son on his 50cc bike!
As the day approached to leave for North Yorkshire, there was plenty of negative talk on the forum regarding the number of attendees this year ie 3 official GTR members and 4 friends and family. Despite this, it was confirmed that we would still make the effort even if there was a limited turn out. On the morning of Friday 14th July it was necessary for me to be in work for 0500 and I was then able to escape the clutches of my employers at 1200. I arrived home for lunch before Kieron and I made our way down to the garage to mount our trusty steeds and head off into the wilds of Northern England (ie North of Gloucester). Leaving at 1430, we made steady progress with a couple of stops on the way for fuel for us and then for the bikes. Our 3rd and last stop was at Doncaster where we met up with my wife and daughter. It was from here that my daughter Robyn donned her helmet (and other suitable attire) and joined me for the final leg of our 270 mile trip.

We arrived at the Castle Arms on the stroke of mid-night and were kindly flagged down and directed in by a kind fellow. We parked up the bikes and were greeted by my wife (who was able to use the Queens highways to their full potential) and by two men (one of which was the fellow that had directed us in). Introductions then followed with the two being Charley Farley and his mate Darren – a nice guy afflicted with the ownership of a BMW whom Charley and I spent almost every moment trying to convince him to come over to the light side (if recent reports are to be a guide then we may have had a little success; time will tell).
Saturday morning arrived with Charley and Darren pacing the pub garden whilst I pulled myself together and got up whilst gently encouraging my children to do like-wise. It was agreed that Kieron would ride with me while Mother and daughter (and pooch) would visit the local area by van. Charley, Darren and I then briefly discussed routes and a plan was put together. Charley then pulled out a bag and from which, he then handed to each of us a coaster that he had made for the occasion along with a tale of how last year he had made side stand plates for all attendees but all thought that they were too good for their intended purpose and would use them as coasters.
Leaving Snape at about 1000, we headed out East with our sights set on Helmsley via A170. At Helmsley we enjoyed a coffee whilst trying to figure out how 1 man and 2 women were going to arrange themselves on the only bike that was visible!! Our computations were resolved soon with the arrival of presumably a second husband on 2 wheels. Our next target for a smoking break was to take us from Helmsley up the B1257 across the Western side of the North York Moors to Stokesley. This was to be a relatively short stop until we were met by the local old guy chatterbox that used to have this and that when he was a lad etc etc etc. Charley and Darren managed to quickly extradite themselves with the apparent need to go to the loo, leaving Kieron and me to try to bring our conversation to close before darkness fell!!

Photo 2: Darrens bike being shaparoned by the GTRs to protect from insults from outsiders!!

Our last stop before heading back to Snape was to be at Leyburn where Kieron and I picked up a drink and had a short wander round. Fortunately we were not accosted by Leyburns village old boy!
Upon our return to the Castle Arms we were met by the very nearly departing Kwikasfuki, who upon seeing us, quickly turned his bike around and joined us in the pub where he had been waiting for a considerable time.

Photo 3: A chat with Asif in the pub car park

The evening was spent over a lovely evening meal (thank you), with chat and drink. With Asif having to depart to make his way home we then settled for the night to prepare for the journey home.

Nice report Bob.

You obviously would'nt have been accosted by Leyburn's village old boy because he has moved to Northern Ireland   :clap

Thank you for doing the write up. I enjoyed reading that.

O.C.

Brilliant and full marks to Kieran for making the journey on a 50cc bike     ......he should become an honorary member as I believe that it took about 11 hours (some of our members complain after 2 or 3 hours in the saddle on much more capable bikes) thank you also for posting your report as I know that you have been busy, its a great and interesting report

I'm glad you enjoyed the meeting despite the low level of support, it really is a beautiful part of the world with superb biking roads.

Ha ha MO,  :mfr_lol:    you are sort of right as this old boy has recently moved  to Northern Ireland, which is why it wasn't possible for me to attend, there is, however, an even older old boy still residing in Leyburn, who does 'lurk' this forum and he is still capable of riding out drinking tea eating bacon butties and the occasional slice of cake

Thanks again for your report and well done Kieran I salute you sir

Perhaps he meant the other one?

Many thanks for updating the thread and sharing the account with us. I don't think I would have had the enthusiasm to do the journey your Son managed on a 'small' engined bike. Fair play to him.

Nice report bob .

Did it bring back fond memories Tony? I am looking to be there most of the Saturday (maybe a bit of Friday evening). Sunday morning I will be running the Severn Bridge half marathon - not too far away but on 2 feet as aposed to 2 wheels.
