The only dedicated video system which is designed to work with Autocom & Starcom which are now one and the same company is a system called Bike Cam2. The downside is that the £250 unit is shite. In theory it looks the bees knees but it is let down by the appallingly low quality lens on the camera which even when set at 480 resolution produces significantly inferior results to today's videos fitted in mobile phones. I speak from experience, I bought one last year and promptly returned it giving an honest assessment to the MD at Autocom of my findings.

Without hesitation they refunded me the cost in full despite the fact that they knew I had used it on a number of occasions.

This was the camera.

And this is how I had it connected upto the Autocom.

GTRTONY

thats a shame as it looks the biz. have you found anything else that works?

This is a link to the  camera / recorder that Im using on my bike. My RoSPA group has bought a number for tutor to film training runs and mine is gettting other use as well.

http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/minidvr3-bullet-camera.html

However we had a presenatiion last night by a head cam retailer and there is now a compact HD unit (720p)  that has a camera only slightly bigger than  the currnent bullet camera. It has a separate recorder unit and a wired remote start/ stop button that can be mounted on the fairing etc.

This upcoming set up is going to cost around £220. Once the group has tried a demo unit I may get my own.

I understand that Autocom do an adpater lead to wire the intercom into the recorder.

Autocom on their web site advertise a record lead which is about £40. They no longer produce them however and they are like rocking horse poo in the second hand market. I used to have one but stupidly sold it. The beauty of the lead was that it would plug into your Autocom and then directly into a digital dictaphone. Your voice comms would then automatically be recorded through Autocom onto the dictaphone.

An alternative method which I have used recently is the digital dictaphone with a mini covert mic specifically made for the model of dictaphone. Comms are crystal clear and you get a slight sound of the bike also. You can then just overlay the sound file into your video editing software.

hi mate, dont know if this is gonna be any help for you,but i use a drift hd camera for dirt bike riding the quality is excellent!,chrystal clear pictures.
They sell under action cameras, its on the net as well, if you can hang on till the bike show you can usually get a discount and they usually got a few on display with tv coverage,i know last year they brought out a stelth camera, which was basically the same camera with a few extra features, like slow motion features etc.
it comes with charger, all pc leads, various mounts etc, when i take my son out he has a helmet mount which gives him a bit of "im in charge dad",.theres also a remote for start/stopping which you can mount almost anywhere.
hope this helps mate! ;)

I used an Olympus VN8600PC, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OLYMPUS-VN8600PC-Dictaphone-/180715691376?pt=UK_AudioVisualElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Headphones&hash=item2a137e9d70 with a dedicated mic. Have a look at the accessories which Olympus do and you will find what I mean. You can buy the dictaphones a lot cheaper than this one from Maplins.
If you want to connect the dictaphone directly to autocom best speak to autocom. The dedicated noise supressed leads are about £40-£50. Best option initially to experiment is the dedicated mic to see if you are satisfied with the quality and set up.

thanks Lonewolf

what video editing software do you use. i have never done anything with video before so i am a complete 'newbie' when it comes to editing.

I use Pinnacle Studio HD which when I bought it was about £40 from PC World. It's probably a lot cheaper now. There are at least three versions of the software I bought, mine was the basic option but still adequate. If you have £150+ to spare you can get the all singing all dancing edition but it isn't necessary.

Hi

Currently I am using Nero Vision video editing software as it comes as part of the Nero 10 CD/DVD suite of software - so basically free. It is a good basic package but I will probably look at Pinnical suite of programs as that seems to offer more

Kind regards

You need a You Tube account and a reasonably high speed internet connection.

BTW You Tube videos are limited to 15 minutes
