Yesterday I followed the Tour Britain cycle race around , trying to get ahead of them. Gorgeous Southerner Devon sunshine day.

Bumped into old mate I used to cycle with. He to into his Motor Bikes  . A  Copper on a BMW pulls up beside my GTR on pavement , says " What you think of the GTR then ? " Love it I said, he & few others had had a play on one the night before...there all off back to there Chief constables to see if they can all have them. That's how impressed they all were. Good hey !
Then one of the Marshall's on a Pan..(poor Bastard) pulls over says he to had go on one last night , he wants one too.
My mate now says , may be he should get one & hes on a Blackbird....ha ha...! Ive obviously made a good choice , but then I knew that.

rippers

I believe Leicestershire Constabulary and Strathclyde Police use them. Also I think Merseyside Police had them on trial.

This forums gonna be over run with bloody coppers soon ;)

Rusty

Yea .... Bloody Coppers ....  ::)

zedmeister

South yorkshire police had 2 on demo, absolutely loved them, they too want a fleet but with the cut backs they have been told no more new vehicles of any kind for the forseeable future
get a grip and deal with it

Just a general comment about motorbike coppers. I've never yet had one return the bikers nod and today I met one in Subway. No recognition of a fellow biker and just looked absolutely miserable.
But then again he was on a Pan European so could be forgiven.

Well there's your answer ..... Poor fellow was riding a Pan  ;D ;D

Seems to be different in France.
I was really surprised when they waved at me when I was passing 2 of them on the side of the road.
But then I heard over there they are bikers first and flics second.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

Rusty

Your'e right there Mecki .... I think in France especially, like the Belgiums, it's in their DNA to like 2 wheels ... it's part of their culture, their love of freedom and just knowing how to get around and enjoy themselves. I have to say to never having  had any dealings directly with the French Traffic Police in relation to being stopped etc and I know they can be fairly hard on piss takers ( high speed, fine, impound your bike etc ) but from what I have seen they all seem reasnoble blokes .... just like those DPG officers on bikes in Central London  ;D ;D

I had a run in with the French Gendarme the year before last as I was headed in to Troyes. Came off a roundabout where there was a patrol car and a bike. Carried on listening to Zumo giving me directions to hotel and Monsieur bike gendarme was behind me, flashed his blue lights and pointed to me to pull over.
My heart was starting to race a bit thinking what had I done since leaving the Peage Toll booths.

He got off his bike as I was removing my lid and smiled and told me not to panic. It turns out he was seriously thinking of buying a Sprint ST 1050 which I was riding at the time and was only wanting to ask me about the bike etc.

I'd have to tell him if I saw him again that the GTR is far better though  ;)

Fifteen minutes later he wished me Bon Voyage as I headed off to find the rest of the group I was with and the hotel.

Turns out they not all bad chaps.  ;D :D

Only had contact with bike plod twice in the UK and on both occasians I was singled out amongst a proccesion of cars.

Once a for a document check and once for doing 70 in a 60 yes i know over the limit but would I have been stopped on either occasion in my family saloon?? I think not.

Did have one nod at me once as he was going the other way quite recently - maybe he was a closet GTR owner

He'd probably seen your GTR and thought, why cant I have one of those?  :'(

Ziderman

Yeah you get the feeling if your riding a GTR your going to get pulled just so they can nose.....!

patrick

a NEG colleague who rides a Pan tried a GTR during the Tour of Britain when Stage 2 was cancelled. He seems very keen to have one but needs one in white so his wife won't notice the change.

We've passed quite a few that have either nodded or waved. IME they're a lot more friendly in the Frozen North than they are down here. Mind you, given the roads you lot have compared to the traffic we have I'm not surprised they're happier Up North.

I'm old enough to know better but don't
