I had cause today to get out on the bike for some fresh air and popped into a reasonably local bike shop which is a Kawasaki dealership. I'd never been in this dealership before but I got chatting with the staff and asked them for a part x price against a new GTR. Firstly they had a 2008 model in their showroom with almost 20k on the clock. No better, no worse condition than mine and yet they were selling it for just under £8k.
They offered me £5.5k for mine. Not a chance would I sell my GTR for that.  >:(
When the time comes, if it comes, I think based on those prices I'll be selling private.

I have to agree ... Mr Wolf, like you I prefer the private route ( except when I chopped in my CB1300 for the Gtr !! ).... much rather my pride and joy goes to someone who will really appreciate a decent well looked after bike with FSH etc than it just disappear into the dealership ... here comes a quick story to prove the point ... VFR800 ( not V Tech ) 6 years old from new FSH and mint with 36,000 miles on it ... advertised it for a week, one chap E mails me for photos .. moments later, mobile rings " don't sell that bike I'm on my way from Kent " .. 2 hrs later he turns up with a £500 cash deposit/offering ... up goes the garage door and he just said " I'll have it " .... he loved it as he had spent the previous few days going to places where the bike was advertised as " mint, immaculate, great looking " etc etc ... they were all piles of shit so I was pleased that he appreciated the bike ... no haggling with the price and returned a few days later with an envelope full of dosh ..... brilliant  ;D ;D

Rusty, sounds like how I bought my GTR. Seller assured me the bike was mint for its year/mileage. Six hundred miles later I'm pulling the bike onto our drive, always a bit of a gamble but I wasn't disappointed.  ;D
