Hi guys.

A little CV on myself, I've been biking since I was 15....I hit 70 this year.  British bikes to begin with then decided to give a Susy 650 a go,  as we like touring I then got hold of a GTR.

I've had 4 GTR 1000's over the years, even work as a courier for 7 years on them. I then changed over to the 1100 Pans, had 3 of those....then traded up to a 1300 2 years back.

Today we are going to look at a 10 plate GTR 1400,  maybe have a test ride?? in fact we've got 2 to look at.  One big problem I was online last night and found a 12 plate up in Lancs....for less money.

Now we need to pull our finger out as we're off to the south of France in July...and we want to go on a GTR.. :biker3:

Thank's guys.

Yesterday went tits up....the first stop at the dealership (they have about 8 shops) had sold the one GTR they had. Ok fair enough:  rolleyes: someone got there first, they have another shop about a 30 min drive, they supposedly had two bikes there, according to their website.

Off we went, arrived went straight in and asked about these two as they were in our price range. "We only have a black one," said the guy...."your site says you have two???" says I.

Any way the black one was out the back as it had been on a test ride and was filthy.  We ask if we could take a look?, off we went out the back and there she was.
I threw my leg over the bike, and my good lady climbs on the back...."is it possible to test ride it?"...."yes sir for a £99 deposit"
I ask if the deposit is refunded if the bike is not to our liking?? "No" says this guy, so we walked away.

When I asked why, we were told that some riders ask for a test ride with no intentions of buying, this was a way of stopping it. If you then want to buy the "deposit" it's taken off the asking price.

I've never in all my years had to pay to try a bike,  £99 for a short spin to see if it's what you want, my better half was not too happy....so it's back to square one for us.

Where have all the smaller bike shops gone??? there seems to be around half a doz super stores that rule the roost.  Maybe start looking at a private sale is the way to go??  :undecided:

Welcome to the forum from another newcomer - nice to have another man from the Midlands aboard.

Sorry to hear how you have been knocked back, hopefully something else will turn up for you soon.

There are still some smaller dealers around but they don't seem to always be able to match the bigger guys on price as they work on higher volumes and lower margins.

What is your buying criteria?

I bought mine from CMC Motorcycles at their Newport branch. Had a great deal with them. Bike was well priced, I was able to haggle on the part ex allowance on my RT. We were £1500 apart at first and ended up £250 apart which I was very happy with. No charge for test ride but think I had to sign something in case I binned it. Because they messed me about when I first got there they gave me a £100 pair of gloves and also replaced a tyre pressure sensor.

Ive had a quick look on their website and they are listing 2 which are both at their Cannock branch which should be handy for you.
Good luck

Cheers mate..

It was CMC that we went to.....first at Coleshill, then Cannock, all they had was the black one at Cannock, the guy who took it for a test yesterday was going on to see another one somewhere, then he was going to make up his mind...so because he had paid his £99 for the test ride CMC would hold the bike and nobody could try it until the guy had told them which bike he was having.

I think l paid £100 to hold it for me but there was no suggestion that l wouldn't get it back if l didn't have the bike. In the event l never found that out. My local dealer in Exeter is Bridge m/c. There was one in there a couple of weeks ago but l didn't look at it. Appreciate it's a long way from you but will have a look next time l'm passing
