Smoking on start up?

Hello,

I've got a 2010 GTR, 20k miles doing a 65 mile round trip daily commute, oils and filters changed about every 4k miles.

I know it's a cold time of year but I'm fairly certain I'm seeing smoke out of the exhaust on start up which would indicate valve seal problems. Is this common on the GTR?

Cheers

Smoke is not a common occurrence.

Is it smoke or water vapour. They will steam this time of year as moisture
In exhaust meets cold air.

I'm fairly sure there's a (very faint) tinge of blue smoke in with the vapour but that's the trouble with this time of year, it's difficult to tell.

When I start the bike there's nothing coming out of the exhaust, after about 30 secs to 1 min it starts.

It's a fair certainty that it's just water vapour.

Worn engines smoke worse when they're cold, so it'd be immediate smoking, then taper off as things warm up (and tolerances close).

Exhaust gas contains water vapour that's probably condensing immediately in the exhaust somewhere (probably collector box) but then starts to be "boiled off" as the exhaust system quickly heats up.

Is it using any oil? I suspect not.

If it is using oil then suspect either a valve oil seal or paggered rings .
However .. when the engine is up to normal temp leave it ticking over for about 10 mins the give the throttle a GOOD blip some were north of 6k RPM ... if you see blue smoke then it's deffo one of the above .

If no blue smoke and no significant  oil usage .. all should be well .
Beside the mileage that the bikes covered it is just getting run in 😊
Hope this is helpful
