Hello guys
Just firstly say thanks for my welcome from you all😀
Secondly I've just purchased the bike last weekend and it came with a brand new BT021 on the front......
The rear is pretty much squared off(also a BT021)
My question is can I put a 023 on the rear???

Personally I'd want to put a PR4 on front and rear, which I absolutely love, or try ANGEL GT,

However it's winter, I won't be riding hard so just put a 023 on till summer?
Obviously if I was minted then I'd change them both
Thoughts anyone???

I have mixed tyres on many bikes and even sometimes different makes, I don't think for one minute putting an 023 on the rear will do any harm.

There are some cheaper places to get tyres from such as tyreleader.co.uk and Moro look.co.uk and I even got a PR4 GT as it was cheap and stored it in the garage.

Alan
Ducati owner now but I used to have a Black one, the fastest version.
Previous, Sprint ST (2), VFR 800, Fireblade's (4) SP1, VTR1000, GPZ900, CB250, BSA Bantam D14/4, Suzuki TS100, SX200.

Cheers Alan
I think the same but needed to confirm it, me thinks that tyres off the big company's have not much difference between them all and they pretty much have all the same technology

TBH Paul, I wouldn't mix tyre brands, however I have absolutely no evidence to support my opinion in this respect.

What I would say is that I don't think that an  Avon will be anything like a Michelin or a Metzeler, the latter of which might also be a consideration for you

Good luck with whatever you decide and keep us posted

Heads up
The only time it gets a bit dodgy is if you mixed a sports tyre with a sports touring tyre.
A sports tyre only starts to work ONCE it has heated up and that comes by pushing the front end and the rear by acceleration.
A sorts touring tyre need way far less heat as it's the HIGH silica content in the rubber.
Eg
I used to have a FJR and it handled best with an Avon Storm on the rear ..and a Bridgestone 021 on the front .and I rode this combo on it for 5 hard fast years.
So ya fine mixing the same genre of hoop.
Also if as you say the rear is squared off ..putting a brand new tyre on the rear with a used front WILL open up a can of worms .
Hope this is of help

I'm currently running PR4 GTs on mine,

On a Versys 1000 I previously owned I exchanged the OEM crap for some Metzeler Z8s, which were actually a big improvement, and they lasted well

So, I'm wondering has anyone on here used or are you using Metzeler Roadtec 01s on their GTR  ? if so what do you think ?

Paul if you can afford it just slap a couple of gt pr4's on it and be done. I think most on the forum will agree its about the best tyre out there wet and dry. If not at least make it your front one. Jmo 👍
Baby blade ,rt1100,CB1300 and the best yet gtr1400 😁😁😁👌
It's all in the wrist you know 😏😏👀

PRD

I'm thinking of trying metzeler next time but not michelins.  :mfr_lol:

I've never mixed tyres on the 1400 but have done it for yesrs on the 1000.
It currently has 3D-XMs front and rear but when worn out will go back to PR4 front with 3D-XM rear.

If you go with Angel GT make sure you get the A spec (if i remember) for heavier bikes.Ime running them at the mo and prefer them over the PR4.Mileage wise i think there going to do well.I feel more feed back with these than i did with the pr4s .Both great tyres wet and dry.

PRD

Yea at last somebody agrees with me about Angel gts awesome tyre better than those dastardly michelins.

Thanks guys for the feedback, I got in touch with the dealer today whom I bought the bike off, he's gonna go 50/50 with me for a new rear tyre so I will persevere with that through winter then change the pair come summer
