Shaft drive failures. Engine paint failures. Gearbox failures and ecu probs. Fairly well documented. Recent Ride mag talked about these. Any way glad that you and Charlie have not had any probs. It would be extremely expensive if out of warranty.

I like most of the BMW range and was certainly not disappointed with my K1200. I really did want a K1600 for some time, however I just knew that the snatchy throttle (on the early ones that I rode at least) and lag in clutch engagement, coupled with the bike's heavy weight, would catch me out at some point (probably two - up riding down a Eurotunnel carriage on the way to France) and so did not buy. This probably says more about my abilities than the bike though.

It is perhaps worthy of note however, that I was offered a 2011 K1600 with less than 600 miles on the clock at £4,000 below list price, because it had had a replacement engine/gearbox unit at first service. Apparently this not uncommon fault at that time (so I was told) was due to the "robot" that applied sealant to engine cases also sealing up the oil galleries. Last year in North Wales, I met a rider who was on his third K1600 in twelve months. This was, he said because the first suffered transmission failure, the second little end failure and he was then worried over engine rattles on the latest, which had less than 1,000 miles recorded. I have heard of many other cases of failures on RT & GS Models that frankly, I would not expect at the price that the bikes list at.

Having said that, I have found the handling on those that I have ridden to be very good and the product does look well made. Even now, I am debating whether to buy an R1200 RS next!

I got a fantastic deal on the SX for the GTR. i initially enquired of the GTR way back in July but the dealer just couldnt make the deal i wanted. Then in August i saw it had dropped in price by £500 i was tempted but talked it over with Angie and decided not to waste any more time. Then in September they dropped it another £300 so the deal was done. However i asked why they had it for so long and was told because it had high mileage ( 13,500 ) for a 15 reg. To me  that mileage is nothing, just about loosened the engine up. I have just found out that my GTR was the MCN long term test bike for 2015. I will never buy new again.
get a grip and deal with it
