Well after a month of ownership of my 2013 Gtr1400 I have to say I am very pleased. I've had BMWs for years now, mainly the GS and the GSA and thoroughly enjoyed them. I'd always fancied a gtr and as my aging hips were starting to struggle to get on/off the Beemer I decided to have a change.

On the ride home from picking it up I loved the power and acceleration. The riding position felt a bit odd as I was leaning forward more than I was used to. The wind blast was a bit full on as I couldn't find a position with the screen that was ok. I ended up leaving it down as it was more comfortable.

I found the handling just fine and the steering positive.

I've now fitted helibar risers and it's made the world of difference. Sitting up that bit straighter is more comfortable. The seat seems comfortable enough (unlike the BMWs where I've always ended up fitting a Sargent or Corbin) but to be fair I haven't done a really long run on it yet (that will be next month to the south of France).

I think I'm going to need a different screen (I'm 6'3") or an extender of some sort.

Tank range I'm not too sure of but I'm guessing 180ish miles?

All in all I'm very pleased and so far delighted I made the change.

good to hear that you are enjoying your GTR Paul, I fell sure that you will enjoy the bike more and more as you become familiar with each other, the GTR is a very different beast to the R1200.

I would recommend a Laminar Lip for your standard screen as it will improve the deflection of wind to both the rider and pillion.

As for tank range you should expect as much as 220 at the best for a tankful of fuel.

Its not hard to fall in love with this bike. Its pretty from all angles it rides so well its firmly planted on the ground ( with road pilots on ) good for two up no prob with plenty of luggage space and as ive found out a definate headturner. People often want to talk to you about it so youve chosen wisely 👍👍😀

Hi, you will definitely need a different screen. I have a 2009 model, am 6'0' tall and have tried the standard screen, standard screen with laminar lip and a powerbronze larger screen. All of which I am sorry to say failed to cure wind noise and buffeting. Look at all the other members opinions on here re screens and take your choice. Good luck.

The standard OEM screen on your 2009 bike is slightly smaller than the standard OEM screen on a 2013 bike ,

If I remember correctly the  standard OEM screen on a 2013 bike is the same dimensions as the genuine Kawasaki accessory screen for a 2009 bike

Hope that makes sense      /color]

Still got a Calsci XL wide available to a new home if you fancy a trip to Shropshire to evaluate it?
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.
