I must admit I'm really impressed by members on this site.

A vast majority think nothing of ripping bits off their bikes to do routine maintenance, fit bits etc. Me I'm afraid those days are long gone, I just can't be ar**d. I just want to ride it not get my hands dirty. I used to do it but nowadays my limit is changing the battery, fitting a tank bag ring and changing the exhaust. I know I'm a lazy sod.

I relate with your comments, but the thought of paying someone £50-£70 an hour to undo a drain plug and change a filter, or to take off fairing panels with a few screws to change bits gets me!
Appreciate there are some jobs, I wouldn't or can't do, but the money saved by DIY tasks goes towards these jobs, the next holiday, meal out with family etc, or next farkel!
Also still find it therapeutic to achieve a "fix" or repair, establishes "bonding" - there's so little we can do with machines nowadays!   :hammer:
One day, either time, interest  or finances (what will be the retirement age for a current 52 year old!  :undecided: ) will allow me get all jobs dealer / garage sorted!
but till then there's still  the Swarfega ready and waiting under the kitchen sink!
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

Mikey ... I wholly agree. I look at some of these pictures and the chaps "just strip this down" or "rewire the loom" ? :help:  :helpsmilie: :nuke: The other one they do is "clean the SPLINES" WTF are they ? I can do oils and filters and wheels off and on ( especially with the fancy torque wrench I have ) ... I find my therapy in cleaning

Oh good I feel better now. I'll,sleep a lot better tonight

I know stuff like an oil and filter change are simple enough, but my days of scraped knuckles and laying on the floor next to the bike are long gone. (I won't even mention bike engines on the kitchen table...) If I had enough room for a hydraulic bike ramp, it might be a different matter.

Luckily, I know the owner of an independent bike shop so I take it to him for most things including oil and filter changes; he has the facilities to deal with waste oil and filters. I don't. For anything 'major' he'll let me strip the fairings myself while he does other things, that way I don't get charged for an extra hours labour (1/2 hour to strip and 1/2 hour to refit).

Cheers
