Changing the plugs is a cheaper option than buying a Bavarian money waster.  You are not ready for the lederhosen route yet. You want to enjoy life!

  :mfr_lol:   :mfr_lol::agree:
Still love me GTR, really is the best all-rounder we've had, second place goes to the GS1200.
K16 - dunno - the one I rode before was good, great engineering - but "clinical" - like a BM car, does it very well but ....................
Have to try it again, as with a multi-strada, whether I'd have one............. :undecided:.......never say never!
Before Jen had her MX-5 we tried a Z3, same there, think the Jap's somehow capture a bit of "soul" and bludgeon it in during production!    :hammer:
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

My GTR would occasionally cut out when gear changing, always up the box and between third and fourth. This happened a good few times, usually after ten miles or so of riding and was a dead - cut, as if the ignition had been switched off. The first indication was usually the oil pressure light coming on before letting the clutch out for the next gear.

I suspected the side stand switch, but this was never proven.

It sounds like the GTR can be a bit dangerous with it cutting out on so many machines

Snow0, BMW, Clinical, like a BMW car.....funny you should say that as I used that exact analogy very recently when describing how it rode to Charlie. Lovely ride, but does virtually everything for you and can become almost boring.

OMG - so I'm at danger living on the edge of adrenelin with the GTR possibly cutting out............... :devil2:
Or......falling to sleep through boredom and tedium on a K16! ........................................ :sleep1:
Possibly time to try a Triumph again, new / revised Tiger 1050 out yet? My old 2007 one was third fave after the GS!........or try a rocket 3..........TORQUE MONSTER!

I do like the Rocket 3, but I have a feeling my neighbours wouldn't at 2am after a late shift!  :mfr_lol:

There was a rumour a while back that the wolf had a rocket 3. I think it would suit him.

It's not normal for these bikes to cut out, especially if the hot idle is about 1200.  Something else is going on.  Mine has never done that.  Could be plugs but I doubt it.  I didn't change mine until about 50000 miles.

I'm with you there Jim, plugs either work or fail as far as my experience goes.
one thing I never considered that was proven with my old XTZ750, mobile phone / radio, signal, sure that one cut out caused by RF signals when the phone was scanned, doesn't happen regularly enough to verify though, but always on tickover / stopped at lights etc.

It is scaremongering from the dark side. Just jealous because we have so few problems compared to them.

Sorry it's taken me a while to respond to the (latest reckless) comment by PRD I was just outside admiring the German design and beauty of the K16 before it ventures on an effortless 400 plus mile ride tomorrow.....just because it can.

They'll be no need for the fitted as standard heated seats or grips as it's quite warm in the deprived North of the U.K. although I may well use the fitted as standard cruise control to ease the journey and still allow me to give lesser bikes The Bird as I pass them whilst contemplating dynamic or standard mode for the engine management unit while all six cylinders effortlessly pump away to get me safely to and from my destination with no fatigue.

I'll have my camera gear with me of course which will all be stashed away in the ample sized panniers fitted as standard with central locking and backed up with a factory fitted BMW Thatcham approved alarm with sensitivity monitors.

Life can be sweet for BMW owners.  :gunsmilie:
