Sorry guys, I know this is like watching TV these days (repeat after repeat after ..................)!!!

Anyroadup, Ive been having the warning (intermittendtly) about the rear one for about 2 years now, especially in the winters. However, it now comes on and stays on for a long time (although on the way back from MOT today, it did go off).

Bike is 2010 (newer marque, with the smaller glovebox thingy).

So called in to my usual little independent tyre dealer, he has quoted £50 to take wheel off, tyre off and 'a bit on top' if he needs to solder the battery. I could get the wheel off and do the soldering, but I would struggle to get the tyre off, so I think I will get him to do it all.

Just to clarify - is it DEFINITELY a solder job for the battery? Is any reprogramming needed?  As the old battery is removed is the 'connection' to bike lost? And re-programming needed?

Also are Lithium batteries, same as Lithium Ion? Bit of conflicting info on web!!! Also any battery recommendations? There is so much choice, but I really hope not to have to repeat the process shortly!!

I will give the Kwaka dealer a ring tomorrow to get a price (out of interest) - just for interests sake.

No idea but I've been quoted £154 plus labour from Kawasaki for one on my front, which is a PITA since I've only had the bike for a month !!

Solder - Yes
Reprogramme - No
Tyre removal - Not completely. If you can break the bead seal, and compress the tyre in the valve area, you can remove the valve in the space created. Last time Ant and I done it, we used a number of G-cramps or ratchet clamp thingies to break the bead and squeeze the tyre to make space.

What a nuisance they are. More money to spend on something that is not really necessary.

From another forum

The UK went further than the UN requirement and mandated that all vehicle registered after 2012 have TPMS - it is a MOT fail for a post 2012 vehicle to not have an operative TPMS

Not really necessary if people can be relied upon to check their tyres  at less than the service interval. Sadly I think a lot of MOT tests and roadside checks will prove the opposite.

As Doebag says ...... and there's a good write up here somewhere showing how to break the bead with the G clamps. I did it, its not that hard to do with decent clamps. I had a little trouble getting the tyre to re-seat, so took the wheel off and blew it up at the local garage with a little fairy liquid on the wheel rim.

If you have trouble getting the bead to resit for inflation, tie a rope or use a ratchet strap around the tyre circumference and tighten slowly to force the beads onto the rim.

Thanks guys, I'll see how much the stealer quotes tomorrow.

Got a free day Friday - so I 'may' try the G-Clamp option, I guess worse case scenario, I fail and take the wheel to my tyre guy, but I'll try first.

True..... I don't NEED the ABS, traction control, or adjustable screen either...... but I sure as hell ain't gonna disable them?

And I definitely am NOT gonna throw them in the bin, but ta for the suggestion.
