Mods - feel free to move if this is in the wrong place.

:help:  OK so I've looked through the postings and am confused.  I want to mount a Givi Maxia (55ltr) top box, to put 2 helmets in, but also for SWMBO to rest her back on. I've heard (& been told today) that you need to replace the standard mounting plate (monokey?) with some new-fangled dangly bit.  Someone else has told me this is rubbish and the standard plate is fine.  Could I have some advice please.
TIA

As far as I'm aware the standard OEM  Kawasaki top box fitment is the same as Givi monokey.

So any Givi monokey case will fit onto it, however some concern has been expressed by some users that the standard plate being designed for a Kawasaki 47 ltr top box, shouldn't be used to attach a larger capacity Givi top box as it may be over stretching its capabilities.

To overcome this possibility some members, myself included, fit a Phils Farkles top box plate with monokey attachments.  This plate is much stronger being a CNC machined Aluminium item and so better for larger boxes with heavier loads

I hope this helps to explain.

The link below will provide much more info

I think the standard plate is Monolock (Mine is marked "Monolock") in which case the Monokey boxes won't fit, you need a Monokey plate. To fit my Givi 55L maxia I replaced the standard Kawasaki plate with one from hero blobs with Monokey fittings. Much more sturdy IMO.

For some reason on kawasakis Std plate you fit another one they opt for monolock both are plastic fixed to plastic .

Look at the plate or the base of the box monolock has square slots on the back of the plate ( near to the seat ). And blocks that slide in the holes on the box.

Monokey has two up right lugs on the plate and slots on the bottom of the box that slider over the lugs (  like keyholes )
The lock/ lug is the Same  on both types if that helps

LOL - no wonder people are confuzzled !! That explains why some of the Givi boxes come with the plate then.
I'm guessing too that the stonger (?) plate is more for if you're carrying luggage in the box rather than just putting helmets in when parked up ?
Cheers for the responses :-)

The stock rear carrier only officially carries up to 22lbs..  I think that we stretch that a bit at times but that's the guideline from Kwackers.
