Now then, its that time of the year again 'Holiday' and i'm just starting to sort my gear out for upcoming ride to Romania, via France, Germany, Austria amd Hungary. Top-box for me, panniers for her. Now my last bike, 1050 Tiger, you would have to 'top-up' the engine oil just going to the corner shop for the paper. Question-- Do you chaps carry spare litre of oil when touring, does your GTR 'burn' oil and need inspecting daily? Mine all ok so far, only done 6000 miles, next trip, 4000 miles. Oh, i've just had new set of PR3's fitted thanks to rave comments on this forum, and they feel superb. Cheers xx

I've never had to top up my oil between services.

23750 and never had to touch the oil

Mine doesn't really burn oil..however bikes of the same type often vary...as a previous tiger owner too....mine never really burned oil...but I knew of bikes that did......also somewhat dependent on riding style etc etc. In short I wouldn't do 4 thousand miles without checking but it's an easy job ...... If you're heading into the sticks then I'd keep one for piece of mind....if more than one bike in your group....then I'd carry a 1l bottle between three or 4 of you.... And share the 'love'
It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Mine doesn't really burn/use oil but I did notice that when I was over in France in May on our a l2500 mile touring holiday that the level had dropped a bit and I had an opportunity to top it up just in case.

I wouldn't normally consider carry oil on a touring holiday as the bike doesn't generally use that much oil but if you need oil it should be generally available from most stores etc. I would rather use the space for carrying other things

To be honest it wouldn't cross my mind ...granted, I have never done a 4000 mile trip in one go but I have never carried any spare oil in all my years ......

ah-ha...my VFR used to burn oil for fun...no idea why...but i wouldn't go more than 500 miles without topping up

42,000 miles and have never topped up, nor carried oil.
I used to carry 1 litre on my GTR1000.
Carried it for about 6 years and then topped up a friends bike with it.
You can get it at any garage. Why carry any?
