Off to Spain in September, Portsmouth -Bilbao return. Second visit, did the Picos last time.
Heading to Salamanca for a couple of days, then open to suggestions. We were going to return to San Sebastian but been there, done that, nice but very expensive.
So any ideas would be welcome, have about 8 days to play with before returning to Bilbao, touring two up.
Thanks.

from Salamanca go left to Porto, then drift north and back across the top of Spain!
That was our first outing on the GTR last year, great roads, views and food!
Santiago de Compostella is worth a visit, Playa de las catedrales is fantastic if you like the sea with rocks, as is Comillas, all backed up by the Picos just behind you!
Try https://thespanishbiker.wordpress.com/      Great site for tips / routes / accommodation.
This'll be our 4th year over there this year, just the Pyrenees in August, seems so far away!
Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

I looked at a trip late last year but it didn't happen for a number of reasons.  It was to do Dover - Calais then ride down through France and into Spain to return Bilbao-Portsmouth. If you haven't booked already then it might be worth a look as I was excited :-)

We did the opposite last time we went to Spain. Portsmouth to Bilbao, then into the Picos for a few days touring around (Bloody brilliant roads and views), then onto San Sebastian for a couple of days chill, lovely place especially the old town. Then rode across the border into France and through France to the coast. The route through France was extremely boring after the Picos, although the places we stayed made up for it.

So it's shaping up like this, staying a few nights in each place, from Bilbao across to Leon, then onto Salamanca, onto Soria, and finally to the coast to Hondarribia, just along from San Sebastian, before heading back to Bilbao. Last time we rode back through France to the channel, what a boring ride that was, good  :tank: country though
