As I left for work last weds morning, I looked at my LG Tumble drier, which had a pair of jeans and a polo shirt in it, and thought only 20 minutes to go I will leave it on, One hour later, I am looking at the charred remains of my Kitchen, and a severely smoke damaged house, every room, every cupboard, inside every drawer, I never quite realised how bad smoke damage could be, so lesson learned NEVER LEAVE A TUMBLE DRIER UNATTENDed  but no one was hurt and no one elses property was damaged.

It took 4 washes useing every chemical avaialbe to get the smoke smell out of my various motorcylce jackets, good job I left helmet in garage with Bike, so thanks to My mate Jenny you star.

O.C.

Thankfully no one was injured, it goes to show that these appliances shouldn't ever be left unattended, they should also be kept completely free of fluff deposits etc.,

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to put in a smoke detector in the laundry room.  Not that it would have helped in your case but if you were there you could have been alerted.  I'm thinking of getting one for mine now as the laundry is in the basement and we don't stand there whilst it dries.

Glad to hear all are safe No73.

In 30 years service it never ceased to amaze me the damage that even small fires can do.

It may be worth speaking to the Fire Officer who did the investigation to see if there is a history with that model of tumble dryer.A few years ago there was a series of fires [some fatal] that all involved Beko brand appliances.

ive been associated with a few tumble drier fires through my business over the last decade and almost exclusively thye were caused by a large build up of fluff in the fluff filter which should be periodically cleaned , especially in condensing dryers that don't vent out . AFAIK modern tumblers are fitted with thermal cutout switches .

Anyone on here with an active tumbler please go check you fluff filter. :ohplease:

I cleaned the fluff filter in door and underneath on Monday evening, no history as such with LG catching fire as far as I can tell, it was 6 years old and has thermal cut outs fitted, something failed big time

I guess you need to hire a fluffer to take care of that.. :mfr_lol:

The fluff filter inside the door should be cleaned after every load. The condenser should be cleaned once a month without fail.

Sorry to hear of your fire No73

Many years ago we had the misfortune to have a house frie in one of the bedrooms. It was a small fire limited to one room. The smoke damage to the rest of the house was unbelievable  and took a clean up squad some time to sort out.

Then the agro started as the loss adjusters first offer was a good 5 figures short of the mark. 14 months later we settled with a sum that was stiill a few k short but the emotional stress was causing major pressure on family life.

When you pay your premiums you don't expect to fight for what you've purchased. Insurance companies and peace of mind is an expression that I used to believe in till this event in my life.

Trust you have a better time than us.

In fairness the insurance company seemed ok but the loss adjusters.................I'm going for a strong coffee to calm down  :mfr_lol:

Funnily enough I cleaned the filter is ours just last night (I clean it before or after every use) set it to 100 minutes on "Cool" setting and we went to bed.

Nice to know nobody was hurt.
