Greetings all,

I work at MCN here in the UK, and this year I'll be running a 1400 GTR on the long term test fleet. I've been using the bike since Monday and it seems pretty good so far - although I'm reserving proper judgement until I've got through the first service and can open it up a little more.

I'll try to be pretty active on here during my time with the GTR and will probably ask for plenty of advice when it comes to mods/known problems. Hopefully I'll be able to meet some of you, too.

Liam, welcome. I take it its the new 2015 GTR you'll be testing?

Any advice or info, this forum is a wealth of information. Enjoy the bike, it's an awesome machine.

Hi Liam,

Please get the tyres changed before any review. PR4s will transform the bike

Nice to have you along.  Was at Donington last year when Chadz went round on the SX.  Ever since I've been meaning to contact him to give my GTR a thrash around, just to surprise a few folks.  Reckon you will beat me to it, now

What tyres does it come with, now?  My 2013 had Bridgestone BT021 from standard and they were terrible.  Cant believe that Mr K would piut a 10 year old tyre on a machine like this.  I hope you have got T30 or similar

Welcome aboard Liam.
Like the others say, ditch the BT021s and get some PR4s or Angel GTs.
Other than that I'm not a fan of the OEM saddle but it's tolerable for a couple of hundred miles.

hi Liam,
I bought a new gtr in October last year 2014, here are some settings I made for my weight at 14st. 7lbs. rear spring turned in three full turns (6 clicks)and the rebound damping in half a turn, two full turns on the front no change to damping at front the bike sits well in corners and steers accurately, it didn't until those mods, bike mileage is now 3,750 I use it with the luggage at capacity most of the time, I am reading posts from other owners here about tyres and I will change them before my euro tour of approx. 4000 miles starting june 15 2015.

Hi Liam and welcome.

What a lovely job - I'm sure it's also your passion and pastime. Here's what I posted some time ago.

"I can no longer accept the bias and rating given by motorcycle magazines towards the GTR - unfavourable comments like 'the Versys 1000 is better two-up tourer' and a suspect 40mpg statistic leave me uncomfortable as to their ability to test a bike - I have therefore cancelled my subscriptions to 'Bike' and 'Ride'".

Note I said magazines and not journalists - so you can see the tolerance I have towards others.

Will we have some feedback, comment or views from you prior to your journalistic review?

It's big, it's blue and the plate says 'you have just been overtaken by a pensioner' and that really pisses sport bikes off.

Hi Liam,

Mines on a 14 plate. Definitely go for the Pilot 4s. Only other suggestion is you pop along to MCT and have Darren look it over for you. I'm around 16 stone and 6' 3' and was expecting to need the shocks worked on. All that was needed was to set them up to my weight and the bike was transformed. The other problem is, it's so damn planted and comfortable you may want to keep an eye on the speedo  :mfr_lol:  :police: It seems to like to dawdle along around legal plus 15-20  :hammer:. I've replaced the seat with a top sellerie again built to my weight. Enjoy
