On the way back from Deepest Darkest Somerset I was accelerating out of a roundabout in 2nd gear, to make the most of an overtake opportunity and I knew I was getting close to the red line and I was about to change up when went it into the red (11k ish) and then the bike stopped accelerating - I thought opps  ::) better ease off ::) and change up  ;)

Does the GTR have a rev limiter or did the traction control kick in (Road was dry and there didn't appear to be any debris on it)?
If it was the traction control then I didn't notice if the light was flashing or not as I bust concentrating on the overtake.

I guess the ECU is programmed to prevent over-revving.
My 1250 Bandit did exactly the same, you went into the red and the computer immediately cut the fuel supply.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

Sounds like the rev limiter. Happened on my 08 GTR as well

Red-lined in second?

Mmmm, the three figures should have been a limiter in theirselves!!

Redline is 10,500rpm.
Rev Limiter kicks in at 11,000rpm.
To get the best acceleration you should be up-shifting at around 10,000rpm as peak power is around 9,600rpm.
And yes, I'm sure many of us have done exactly the same thing and hit the limiter. I know I have.

What's really scary is when you pull a wheelie and it hits the rev limiter.
Front wheel comes down like a rock!  :o
Ointment needed for bruised plums! <LOL>

RM...whilst i cannot condone riding a bike in such a Hooligan'esque fashion...rumour has it that 'yes' that is indeed the rev limiter and not TC...not that i'd know ::)

PS does anyone know if the speed camera's on the A303 near Salisbury work?.....cause if they do, i'll have to weld my letterbox shut >:(
It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Kwikasfuki

Screw that, I tried it this morning and it does cut out. I was almost flying though

If they are the Gatso type, not in roadworks and if they didn't double flash then no you don't have to weld your letter box shut  ;).

The Camera Partnership that used to manage the speed cameras in Wiltshire has ceased to exist and Wiltshire Police are more interested in accident reduction.

The limiter on my 2011 kicks in exactly on the redline at 10500

I once left mine in 2nd coming off a roundabout and without finding the rev limter changed into 3rd just into 3 figures  :-)
