im an avid facebook user and also an active forum member, to me the 2 medias are very different and I get different things from both.
Things on here are more personal and friendly and the facebook is a great way to see what people do with their GTRs from afar, you we are all very similar you know , where ever we come from.

Facebook is much easier for posting pictures for the non technically minded  , that is an advantage, facebook suits the smartphone generation much better .

I set one up 2 years ago , now with 780 members, me and oliver decker are the administrators, some good stuff does get posted, there are a few on FB so I wouldn't bother setting another one up

I keep my site clean from all the spam, I go on every day and delete the rubbish people post , in its easy to see their intention before you add them

Mac

I think people are a little sensitive about this forum.

I didn't ask any questions like how could it improve or why replace it....

I haven't critisiced the forum I've just suggested a Facebook page... Because it's easier to use.. fact!

The FB group could be a closed group so you would have to apply to join, then you don't get any wollies on their posting spam etc.

Photographes can be uploaded in seconds, I.e you snap a shot & hit load & bam it's on the site.
You get updates directly to your smart phone, I.e. I'm out on the bike in the midlands & you can pop a post up saying I'm in Nuneaton anyone fancy going for a spin & bam you get that on your smart phone... I'm all about riding & not sitting in tapping away on my PC....

I think from the comments that the people who ARE critisicing Facebook probably never use it so don't understand it.... But please don't get me wrong I'm not here to support Facebook at all, I couldn't give a monkeys about it, I'm just suggesting that twenty times a year without any organisation riders of the mighty GTR could meet up & bimble around together, like minded folk & all that.

With regard to Korea & the google translate, I think Wolfe your missing my point..... I couldn't care less what they are doing but sometimes wish I lived there because they clearly have a buzzing GTR community over there with bi-weekly meets & guys riding together.... Lots of photographs so it shows people what they are missing.... It then makes people want to go on the next meet..... And numbers increase.

I think if people joined a uk GTR group & used it to communicate about ride ours etc, it would be very engaging & useful.

Another point with forums, how many people actually engage with it? In my exspereance most just read & sit back whilst a small minority group are very engaged & write away every day..... Have a flick through the posts on here & I think I would have made my point..... Facebook is easy peasy you can engage by just liking a pic or a post.... I like it because it's easy.

Remember I'm all about the riding & not this tip tapping writing on my PC......

Foody

There's some good points there Mac.

I can see where you are coming from. More and more people are using Facebook but I wouldn't want to see this forum go down as a result.

I'm in a closed group for something else on facebook and it seems to work quite well for that but that is not in 'competition' with any other forum or page.

Facebook would certainly be a good extra but would users then forgoe logging on here as a result.

I guess there's only one way to find out....... Fiiiiiiiight !!!!!

TBH , if you go and set up yet another GTR facebook page, you will see hardly any activity, Ive had my site for 2 years now and have 700 members, take out the spam which I have to do on a daily basis , its a real pain in the butt, take out the continual pics advertising  by the Malaysian gtr club , you are left with jack shit , there is much more activity on here .
The real truth is the gtr is such a low sales volume bike coupled with the older age group ownership who are less likely to be on FB and forums , there just isn't the traffic for a club or a busy media forum.

Im also on the Usa ZRX site, now that's busy and a great place to hang out , the bike has sold in huge volumes to the younger modify brigade which equals internet traffic.

Hi Mac
A closed Facebook group works for me.In fact I was posting elsewhere a while back about contacting members on, maybe, a regional basis to organise trips out etc. I do fall into an older demographic category  but I do actually understand Facebook, I still use it for business and belong to one closed group. I made a conscious decision to abandon it as far as I could because of personal reasons and I don't want to be friends with people I've never heard of and receive all their rubbish. I would join a closed group but would still post on this site so I don't see a problem tbh.

Mac

I've been in rome for new year & am still here but on my return to the uk I'll set a Facebook page up & see where it goes.... I've also popped a post up on the Korean GTR Facebook page & it's been received very well by riders in the uk.

Ant

I dont do Facebook, never will, just don't have the time and doesn't interest me.

This forum and any other is just about enough. Would rather talk to someone face to face.......

Lonewolf

Mac, perhaps I am a little sensitive about this forum and rest assured I make no apologies for being so. I've seen this forum grow from strength to strength over recent years and I'm proud to have been a part of it as it grew.

Regardless of my current bike, I still wish to be associated with this forum and I will support it in any way that I can until it no longer exists, (unless I pop my clogs first).  :sweatdrop:

I don't do FB, I detest it with a vengeance and can not understand peoples obsession with it and trust me some folk are obsessed with it and live their lives by it.

Anyway, apart from that, yeah give it a go, sounds like a crackin idea.  :mfr_lol:

i wont do facebook ,shes an ugly thing

I have had a look at the GTR Facebook page..... And she's not THAT ugly.

I've even been tempted to enter her myself a couple of times!

I've up loaded a couple of photos and whilst most of them get 'liked' by people with names I can't pronounce (and I dot mean Welsh names either) it is far easier to up load photos on there than it is on the several forums that I have joined.

If there was an easier way to up load photos on here I think there might be quite a few more ride out report posts and things like that, including a couple of photos to tempt other members.
