Hello all, any thoughts on which is the best sat nav to buy, covering UK and Europe please.

What's your budget?

Garmin for me, the Zumo 590 if you can afford it, Zumo 660 if you can't.

I have the Zumo 660.

I'd say Garmin as well.

Their model numbering is seriously screwed though.

A 340 or 390 would probably meet all your requirements for Navigation

I've had a Tom Tom Rider and a couple of Garmin units over the years, a 550 and a 660. The Garmin units are far superior in build quality and the 660 has undoubtedly been the best of the bunch.

O.C.

I use a Garmin 660 now which is good if sometimes a little strange in its route finding options, but its biker friendly and intuitive to use.

I've had a TomTom rider in the past which was also good (the latest versions are even better), A problem I had with my TomTom in the past was sorted immediately and free of charge

I have the latest Tom Tom Rider with the larger screen, lifetime updates, and really cant fault it, switched from the earlier Rider 2 as well.

Never used anything else so cant compare but so far so good.

I got rid of individual sat navs and now use my iphone with downloaded sat nav software. You can get garmin, tom tom and others for about £50 which I liked as I can if I want use different ones. I use copilot which was about £40 for europe and used it in the summer extensively. I decided I would just download a different one if it wasnt any good - just needed wireless to do so. I bought an iphone waterproof case which RAM mounts so I just have one device for music, sat nav and phone. It means one connection to my bluetooth.

I guess the same software is available for android devices but I dont know if you can get the waterproof RAM mounts.

Usage is not great with gloves so i have a touch screen pen velcro'd to my fairing....  I can tell you that velcro works at 140 on the autobahn! the main downside for me is i am now an old bastard and cant read the screen without glasses so the number of times I have randomly phoned people is quite scary.
