Had to renew the insurance for Tessie (my 2011 GTR1400) today and as I've been thinking about buying a brand new BMW R1200GS Adventure I thought I would get a some quotes...  :mfr_lol:

TPFT quote...  :shit::

I got a fully comp quote (£100 excess) for £257.9  :yes:

Odd thing is when I add the 5 years no claims bonus it jumps to £282.47 Isn't the idea of a no claims discount to actually get a discount? :nono:

maybe the software is confusing your NCD with your driving years, I had a similar issue a while back and apparantly it was assuming that 8 years NCD also meant 8 years licence held, always best to phone

I've already renewed my GTR insurance... I wish I knew about www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk before could have saved myself some money. Policy won't start until next week so I might actually cancel the policy I took out earlier and go with this cheaper one. It was from the same broker too, MCE.

Done a quote for a new R1200GSA as well, not as cheap as www.comparethemarket.com for fully comp but at least the TPFT was cheaper than the £79k+  :mfr_lol:

Fully comp with protected no claims from Swinton insurance is something like £97 via the bike insurer for me this year, can't complain at that one.  :clap:

The insurance for my Super Tenere ZE was very competitive when compared to other bikes I've had recently  :yes:

I'm insured with MCE who, if you can bear the pre-recorded voice of that goon Fred Clarke driving you insane on the phone, are otherwise very good   :mfr_lol:

I'm currently with MCE and have been for the past 2 years BUT, a few friends who have been with them and had to make a claim have had no end of trouble.
Been told that their underwriters are not located in the UK which makes claims harder to get solved.

Anyone made a claim with them who knows first hand?

Stephen give BMW on insurance a call. They were offering a good price and the included extras were many. I stayed with Footman James when I changed from 2010 GTR to 2014 GSA three weeks ago. Only reason for not changing was it would have cost more to exit current insurer and start with new. Will be getting back to BMW own insurance when renewal is due.

MCE decided to up my premium because I chose to ring them, rather than use the web site. I have explained that £52 extra for no reason is inappropriate and several complaints have followed. The upshot being I will not be using MCE's services in the future and neither will I recommend them to my riding colleagues. Everybody will have different opinions on the company, but when you speak with other riders, sadly mine is not a unique occurrence.
Good luck to anyone who uses them

Cheapest is not always the best........you know how good a company is when you have to make a claim or someone claims against you..!!!!

Thats the most important bit as far as I'm concerned...
