Am I a British citizen?  I was born at Burderop Park (USAF hospital at the time back in the 50's) to a US father and English mother.  I became Naturalized here in the US when I was about 16 or so.  I don't remember renouncing British citizenship (unfortunately I was sober at that time so the memories are lacking) so I'm wondering if I still have duality.  According to a British website if I was born in the country before '83 then I am a citizen.  Just something I'm wondering about at the moment...  Is there anywhere to go online to check that sort of thing?  I do have a UK birth certificate.

You could always apply for a British Passport via the British Embassy and see what happens.

Hmm

As far as I know, British patch brats [ service kids] don't get dual nationality if born abroad. I would have guessed the same applies to US forces but you have an english mother and a UK birth certificate.

I'd say its the fact he has a British mum that would make him a citizen

I went to that website and there's really only two questions and I answer yes to both of them.

Yes you are.

Well cut my suspenders and call me droopy....  I guess I need to check with the British embassy over here so I wonder if I need two passports now if I want to visit from the US.

Don't believe that having a British Mum automatically entitles you to British Citizenship but if you were born here and you have a British Birth certificate then yes you are classed as British.

I was born in New Zealand to a British mum and New Zealander dad and have a New Zealand birth certificate and I had to apply for my British citizenship years ago so now I have dual Nationality.

If its just for travel purposes, all that the British passport will allow you to do is get through border controls quicker

Your dual citizenship status will also allow you to work in the UK or EU.

I am also eligible for dual citizenship but I'm a Canadian citizen born in the UK to British parents.

All this is excellent news of course.  What do I get with being a British citizen...a plaque, a certificate, letter from the Queen...?

I'll need to get a portrait of her to hang on my wall as well.

I don't see a downside to that, Boomer.
