After 3 great years with my Kawasaki I am selling it and moving on.
I have done 25000 miles on it from new (It is new on a 2011 plate but a AF9 2009 model)
I today went to book its big service with shims etc, which was going to cost £500. Saw a 2011 FJR 1300 A with only 3k miles on from new. With full MOT and Tax and 1 yrs warranty. £2k to change.
I got 7K part exchange which was unbelievable. A no brainer.
I will keep watching you guys and want to thank you so much for all the help I have had since I have had the bike.
Best Wishes to all

you have done very well there with that deal

Sorry to hear you are parting with the GTR but  totally agree with you, you got a cracking deal on the FJR.

Ant

I would have thought you might have stretched to the Gen 4 if an FJR is what you're after........cracking bike though

Fortunately something i don't have to do...........welcome to the fold  :punk:

I will miss the GTR but felt that a £500 service compared to changing to another tourer with just under 3000 miles was a deal I would be foolish not to consider.
I have never had a Yamaha before, but have heard good things about the FJR 1300. I think it is a bit lower and probably not quite the beast the GTR is. I did have a ride but like most test rides you never really know until you have been living with the bike a few months.
I went all over Europe on the GTR so will miss it.
Still pinching myself I got £7k trade in. Unbelievable, but also makes me wonder what the mark up price was on the Yamaha, I reckon it possibly was £2k
I will keep my eyes out for you guys when I am out and about.

Seems trade in values hold up well.  I got £6000 for a 2007 with 16000 on the clock

The FJR engine is phenomenal - massive grunt, more than the GTR or at least equal.

Rear suspension is shite though.  Bin it and get an aftermarket unit.

Front suspension is adequate but knock it to max on everything then back off a couple of clicks.  2-3lb extra wind in tyre won't hurt either.

Metzelers on it will kill you.  Use anything but.

Expect understeer then when it's in the corner expect oversteer.

Has it got panniers or top box.  Yamaha won't fit both as it is designed for one or the other.

Invest if you haven't already, in decent waterproofs unless you like being wet through.

Great engine.
Four is fun.  Six is sex.

My mate purchased a new FJR last year and paid £500 for the topbox, guess what, they dont have one, they have one which fits from another Yamaha but not the correct one, he is now asking for his money back and as Winston says they do not supply both panniers and a Box from new. Weird or what.

Alan
Ducati owner now but I used to have a Black one, the fastest version.
Previous, Sprint ST (2), VFR 800, Fireblade's (4) SP1, VTR1000, GPZ900, CB250, BSA Bantam D14/4, Suzuki TS100, SX200.

The Yamaha top box is like a reverse-Tardis - it's huge on the outside and small on the inside. Our Yamaha box is in the garage loft waiting to be refitted when we upgrade to the latest model (which won't be for a while as I have my eyes on a new S10 first) and the FJR has a Givi box on it which is much better IMO.

I agree with Winston about the suspension. The OEM shock, up to gen 3, is not very good and we have an Ohlins fitted to ours which, together with the forks, was set up by MCT in Stowmarket. That won't be so easy to do with the Gen 4's ESA but I haven't ridden one and, hopefully, the shock on that is better.

I'm old enough to know better but don't
