I was enjoying the freedom of a Friday off duty ...................you know what I mean...............feet up cold beer in hand enjoying life when at 19.21hrs ............................................The Bat Phone Rang..............................well as good as .................................I was summoned by senior management via the WWW to ride wing man for a deep penetration trip outside the county boundary of Yorkshire......................for those of you who do not hale from that proud county please watch the educational video attached to enable you to understand the enormity of this task .....................

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPjJFv1NDBg

After many coded messages using such words as.................how, what, when, where, a plan of such cunning was made that even the great Blackadder would be proud to put his name to it................

1 The Morning Meeting....................After much discussion it was decided that saturated fat was needed to ensure survival when out of county so @ 08.30hrs after both riders had spent 90 mins in the saddle a baker / butchers in Kegworth was chosen were much munching was done over a bacon and tomato bun and a sausage bacon mushroom bun....................fortified the pair set course to................................

2  The first way point.....................Chipping Norton.....................In that towns car park the young Wolf had to show his old wing man his smooth approach to young lady drivers of German sports cars thus a hot chocolate was needed to give him a much needed sugar fix.  It was at this point that the true vanity of one of the team came to light !

In the intense heat of the Cotswolds Wolf ordered the breaking out of "The Summer Glove".......................

Please note it was a designer label glove

3 The second way point...................................The Slaughters.................OK...........I'm going to be a bit serious now.......................Nothing we show you in pictures can capture the natural beauty of this village................Wow......................just go visit on a sunny day like we did today

4 The third way point was the location of the 2012 meet Lower Lode.........................again bikes good food good company and sunshine made it an afternoon to remember........well the sunburnt heat I now have said it was good  :mfr_lol:

We met nice people and interesting bikes on the way.  The temptation to make a night of it at the Lower Lode was strong   all in all a very nice day

Total mileage for the days little trip was just shy of 400 miles each .......................so not iron butt territory but still a great way to enjoy the beautiful countryside today...............

Many thanks to The Wolf for the invite and company showing me what a GTR is really for

PS The Wolf spent the day with his camera so as I'm being dumb at up loading photos I sure he will be adding his comments and Pics  :mfr_lol:

An excellent introduction from Charles, sorry Charlie as to our movements yesterday.
As has been said, some prompt planning and Kegworth was the destination to reach early morning at 08:30, J24 M1,  head towards EMID I was told....... :helpsmilie: no idea what/where that was but after ringing a friend and going 50/50 I discovered it was East Midlands Airport.

By fluke I just caught sight of a disgusting coloured GTR parked outside a butchers and realised it was my travelling companion so did a 180 and parked up before enjoying a very scrumptious butty.

For those photographic experts amongst us...... :whistling:  we know who you are, I know the picky looks different, that's cos I had it on the wrong setting and it took the pic in B&W but kept the number plates and other features of the photo in colour. I could tell you how to do that but then I'd have to kill you.

After throwing down a challenge to a young damsel at Chipping Norton in a Porsche for a race which she declined we headed to The Slaughters, a location I have been to a few times and which never fails to amaze me. See for yourself.........

The first thing to do was to set Charlie a task, can you get two helmets, a jacket and a pair of designer gloves in one pannier.....with a bit of brute force......it would appear that you can.  :mfr_lol:

I present to you, The Slaughters.

Some fellow travellers on their steeds who because of the location felt perfectly comfortable just leaving their helmets at the sides of their bikes untethered.

We obviously by chance picked an interesting day. There was a collection of vintage cars baking in the midday sun which Charlie started to drool over, I had to tell him repeatedly, its only a car for Gods sake.

Anyway, that's enough of that nonsense, now for some decent pics....where was I? Oh yes The Slaughters.

Lots of quaint little cottages, this one with a stern warning on the gate, anything eh to make a quick buck.

Plenty of dogs having a dip, trying to cool down in the midday sun.

Charlie was saying he liked photos where you could see the splashes of water ....so I said, "What like this one".  :whistling:  The man from Del Mont'e, he say Yes.

If only my numbers had come up on the Lottery.

After much dreaming and a quick chat with Charlie's accountant neither of us could raise the money for the deposit so we moved on to Forthampton, home of the Lower Lode Inn and the venue of our highly successful 2012 GTR meet.

The Ferry Man commeth.

After the ordering of the food, it had to be documented and inspected.

Now that's what you call value for money, it was bloody lovely.

Charlie, being a bit of an 'introvert', (so he claims)  :mfr_lol:  then got talking to everyone he saw, asking about and admiring their bikes.

So that's about it in a nutshell. It was an absolutely terrific day out and I certainly wouldn't have enjoyed it half as much without the presence of Charlie. I think we left the Lower Lode about 5:30pm and I finally got home about 9:30 after a delay on the M1 with a car fire where the motorway was temporarily at a standstill thanks to the Water Fairies and The Old Bill.  :hammer:

PS...if anyone has a spare side stand, PM Charlie, he's gonna need one pretty soon!  :whistling:  I've said too much already!

The only other thing I noticed on the way home was that the GTR's dashboard/facia was flapping around and appeared to be coming loose. I've had a look at it this morning and done a short video, I've lost one of my nuts apparently. Thankfully an easy fix, but I've no idea how/why its come loose and wondered off.

Thank you both for a great write up ... And the piccies will just about pass but we need better for Scotland !  :innocent: :innocent:
The food looked fantastic and thank goodness you took on board the saturated fat early on ... You would never have made it without !
Nice to the The Lower Lode was still intact after all this years flooding.
Oh and Charlie ... Nice to see you have the right coloured bike !
Well done chaps that portrays a fantastic day out ... Which clearly it was.
Thank you for taking the time to share it with us all.
That was clearly a fun day for the 2 of you .. Wait till we hit The Belfry !!

As an add to the above.........................

We did find a nice little pad to rent in Lower Slaughter which we both liked the look of as you could park the bike under the front window.

This is the answer to how much ?  The question we asked at the time then quickly changed subject  :mfr_lol:

As you can see all very pleasant but @ £3.5k/month

Steve did mutter something about a cash advance from his pension pot................... :mfr_lol:

Debs

Great write up that had me giggling..  :mfr_lol:

Debs, glad you found the thread amusing  :mfr_lol:

I had a look at the dashboard this morning and did a quick 30 second video just to show what the actual problem was. Its fixed now but I've no idea how it lost the nut in the first place.
Bike now washed, disc bobbins rotated, shock adjuster adjusted and moving freely and all ready for my next adventure.

:mfr_lol:  Even though I was unaware of Steve's nut shortage until now I must report that he conducted himself in true stiff upper lip style through out the day
