Does any body bother with break down cover when they go abroad , I am in the aa  but to get covered when I am going to Austria in July. It seems to be very expensive for just 9 days cover , or is they any better deals to be had,  I usually never bother with any cover or warranty and just deal with it as it happens,  :scooter:

I'd always used to buy a separate policy for each trip, but now as I only go to Europe on modern bikes I rely upon the insurer (Footman James) and their very comprehnsive recovery service, which forms part of the policy.

Personally, having seen a number of friends (as well as my brother) in difficulties on holiday trips, I wouldn't be without it!

Whatever the cost of breakdown cover it has to be a better option than getting fleeced by some punter offering to help and running the risk of you never seeing your bike again after you've returned to the UK if the bike cant be immediately fixed.

I have been with Carole Nash for years, breakdown cover is included in the cost for Europe.

Makes sense to me, stuff paying a foreigner to get me home.

I use http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/autoaid/breakdown_services.jsp breakdown insurance in UK and took out Eurocover via https://www.adelaideinsurance.com/ last time I rode to Spain :-)

Pross, I have a multi - bike policy with FJ through the VJMC scheme. It can cover up to 11 bikes, however the number of classics must always be greater than the number of modern bikes. It also offers UK and European breakdown cover, including a "get you and the bike home" facility and medical cover for europe. I have spoken to FJ at length about its usefulness for european touring and they have assured me that nothing more is needed, as it covers all eventualities.

It suits me to have it all under one policy!

Incidentally for the car, I buy RAC European Rescue Cover through an insurance broker. It is an annual policy and covers one car for business and pleasure use in europe and the UK, including "Home Start". This costs £100.00 per year, far less than buying from the RAC directly.

if you go abroad with your bike each year then its best to have it included in your policy , how ever going abroad without breakdown cover is insane , the one year you don't buy it will be the year you need it , its not so much the actual breakdown , its the cost of getting your bike back to the uk in the event of a non repair. I took it out last year and it was less than £100
