I have the standard 47L version supplied by Kawasaki, but the mounting plate they use is rubbish, it flexes somewhat, so i had an alloy one water jetted out of 5mm checker plate and fitted this, now the box is rock steady and has had people leaning on it for miles.

Hi Alan my plastic mounting plate recently cracked and my topbox flew off the back of the bike. Ive been looking into getting an alloy one machined but cant seem to find anyone to do it. Have you got a pic of yours and where did you get it done please?

Cheers

Funnily enough I've just taken mine off today along with the alloy mounting plate. I use a standard Kawasaki 47ltr box but I also use one of MG's creations to stabilise it.

My combi is the Givi E55 Maxia Tech 3 + Phil's Farkel (sic) + SW Motech Monokey Kit

But if you don't like the topbox option just use a good waterproof duffle bag. I use a Wolfman on my BMW F800GS with some ROK straps.

I use a Touratech roll bag ,and ROK straps.... much more convenient than a top box IMHO

the standard kawasaki box is very poor quality in my opinion, I so regret buying it, just because it was colour matched. kawasaki use the givi monolock which is scooter grade and has a very unreliable catch and lock. I wish id got the Monokey version

this videos shows the difference

Givi E460N Monokey for me.  the extra width makes it look "right" with the standard panniers.  I've had this one on the last 4 bikes and its never failed in any respect, unlike the monolock that my nipper used where it failed to unlock on a couple of occasions

I'm with Viper, the Monokey box is the better quality of the two its just a shame Kawasaki don't use it so that it can be colour coded.

I had the standard 47 Litre K top box that came with the bike and the standard plate ... that also came with the bike ... France twice and Scotland no problems at all .. But mine would appear to be in a minority ! I only ever rode with those side box things if I had to, and found the " top box only " option the best.

Now there is a good question, I have a mate who works for a local specialist engineering company and he took my old rubbish plastic mounting plate to work and digitised it, then simply used this to create a new alloy one, so not possible to do anymore..

Sorry

They were pretty quick if I remember correctly. If you go with a monokey case, you'll want the SW Motech kit. Be sure to ask the fella at Heroblobs to pre-drill it for you. I remember asking him about it and he said that I would need to do it myself but when it arrived already it was already done. Either he did it for me or he had a pre-drilled rack in stock???
