Indeed - I've heard about your atrocious weather at the moment - definitely a contraindication to a fun ride out.

One thing is bothering me though about riding around here and that is there are some positively dangerous potholes appearing.  They just aren't being repaired anymore.  I think that over the last 6 to 12 months, I have seen more potholes appear on the roads than ever.  I'm not talking about small roads either - sometimes they are right in the middle of a dual carriageway or even on the motorway slip roads.  Can't afford to ride to close to the car in front because some of these potholes are more than 2 inches deep and I'm a little afraid of what might happen to the suspension / tyres / wheels / balance if I actually went down one...

Next time I head out, I'll use the gopro and show you what I mean.  Maybe I even have some footage already - I'll have a quick look...

It hasn't been that bad in the north/north east Ros.

We have had very little rain, it's just been a bit miserable when the rest of the country has been battered.  Most days we have had sunshine but it's then been cold as the poles!

Perhaps we have been lucky in Norfolk too? I am trying to run - in a 1970 CB 750 for a friend, following a top - end overhaul and have managed 225 miles on it since a week ago Saturday, as well as another 150 or so on my own bikes. They have all been in the dry (I try not to ride in the rain, especially with the old bikes, the cleaning takes forever!).

I rode mine to Peter bog horror for a service. Nice day for it really. Bonus point, my son has now bought his own place in Peterborough, so I can go and drink his tea, eat his cake and watch his telly while the service is carried out at Wheels Motorcycles.

Rode to work. Bike overheated on arrival. Steam blasting out of the expansion tank breather.
Topped up with water at lunchtime, once it had cooled down, and rode home carefully-ish this afternoon.
Met Winnsworld on the M25/A13 roundabout on his Bandit 1200.  :biker3:

Got home, ate dinner, went into garage.
Drained coolant, replaced fan switch and radiator cap.
Filled with fresh coolant and all working as it should now. Took 1hr 30 mins.

And so the 25 year old 175,000 mile GTR1000 lives to be ridden another day.
I wonder what will break next.

Well the sun came out AGAIN today, but unfortunately, being a work day, no way of getting out on the bike.  However, as I was driving to a meeting in the car this morning, I suddenly recognised where I was - driving almost right past MotoPep where I had my bike serviced last time!

So after my meeting, I popped in to sit on the 1000 Versys that some of you are droning on about.  :surrender:

Anyway, I can see why it would appeal to some of you olde phartes.  It seems to be VERY light - but then so would anything after 4 years on a GTR I guess.  Next up, it seemed a little higher than the GTR but had a more upright (and therefore more comfortable) riding position.  Doesn't look like there's quite as much weather / wind protection, but there is still plenty of space in the luggage.  Pillion seat looks much more comfy too.

All in all, I can see why some of you like it.  But it just doesn't look anywhere near as impressive / imposing / cool as a GTR.  And I just don't like the look of it.

So basically, I'm pleased that I had a look, but I'm delighted that I have a GTR :)  I shan't be buying a Versys.

Good job I didn't drive past a BMW dealer..............................................
