Here's something which I found on another website and something which might in the future affect us especially if we have had HID lights fitted to the bike.

I'll sign their petition in they ensure that all other road users 'see me'.....all the time....forever

Up until then....bugger off.......bloody do-gooders  :P
It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Lonewolf

So......you wont be signing it then?  ;D

Rumours in the MOT world suggest that VOSA are pushing for luminance checks well as headlights being correctly aligned, a mate owns an mot station and has the kit already fitted that measures luminance of your lights, may soon be upon us that too bright and fail mot

Rusty

I heard that MOT's were soon to be moving to every 5 years ..............

Lonewolf

Rusty, where did you hear that?

Rusty

A Met rat skipper I met the other day had recently been on a conference with VOSPA and other agencies .... it's a proposal that is being put forward ... so I am told ... you know anything like that could be done overnight but how the wheels of Gov't grind so slowly .....

Lonewolf

Cant say I think its a step in the right direction. I take it you mean 5 years from new as opposed to the current 3. And not every 5 years throughout their life?

Rusty

Yep, sorry didn't make that clear .. 5 years from new and then back to annual.

Boomer

The problem as always is mostly with the morons who can't be bothered to correctly adjust their headlights.
Add to that highly efficient HID systems in a blue colour and you are bound to get lots of complaints.

Riding through this last winter was particularly bad as so many people had to replace their bulbs (blown due to the cold).
Half the cars out there had either only one headlight or else really badly adjusted/designed headlights.
Those that have both lights working often have 2 different colour headlights or some of those "prism" gadgets or are running super-high-intensity-guaranteed-90%-more-light-or-your-money-back bulbs in their badly adjusted headlights.

Another contributor is the current fashion of using shaped mirrors and clear lenses.
These are often very badly designed and result in blinding points outside the main beam pattern.
BMW cars in particular suffer from this, but many Mercs and some others also suffer.

Finally, brake lights bulbs are 21W, not 25W and SWITCH YOUR BLOODY FOG LIGHTS OFF.
IT HASN'T BEEN FOGGY FOR OVER A WEEK AND NO YOU DO NOT SWITCH THEM ON JUST BECAUSE IT IS RAINING!

The older Fresnel lenses led to a more diffuse light.

Personally, I am rarely for any legislation, being an anarchist.
However, since they won't let me use my Klingon Disrupter ray on the blinders then I guess I will have to side with the people calling for an end to the dazzling displays.

I must admit I am pissed off with Motor Bikes using main Beam all the time . I am pissed off with car drivers using fog lights(front) as normal running lights I am pissed off with drivers who sit in traffic and stationary at traffic lights with there foot on brakes & all cars have that extra brake light in window now too. Even worse when your on your motor bike , in the rain with your visor down. It's much worse at night when they do it too.
What else am I pissed off about........
