Ok,
one for the technically minded among us

Is there a lowering kit for the rear shock available for the GTR?
With the wife on as pillion the extra weight means I can reach the floor with flat feet, I only have a 29" inside leg.
(I am not as blessed as Deb's with about 6 miles).

The lowering kit would mean I feel safer when having to put my feet down. Not just relying on road camber and the reach of my tiptoes

Most mon-shock bikes can be lowered by altering the length of the 'dog-bones' in the rear suspension linkage. Kawasaki call them 'tie-rods' in the workshop manual.
They are not adjustable, you would need to source some of a different length [ longer links lower the ride height IIRC ]
I bet some owners in the US have done this and there is no doubt a list of lengths versus ride height to suit all rider sizes.

Thanks Doebag - I thought it might be a difficult job but from what you say a simple swap out once purchased....

Thats the job, it will be a good time to lubricate the rear linkage as well.
There are numerous hits for lowering on the COG forum.

An alterntaive is to opt for a standard Kawasaki lower seat or have one custom made to suit both you and your wife.

I do have a Kawasaki lower seat sat in the garage, purchased from a forum member some while ago but never used by me. You are welcome to try it see if it makes a difference or not, I am not sure where you are but I am  in Wiltshire.

Kind regards

Steve

Hi Steve,
I'm just over the border in Reading - I'm not certain a lowered seat will help as with the airhawks in place the reduced seat is raised again. I will have to mull it over I think

Note that if you go too low, the bike will sit upright on the side stand, and it may be harder to get on to the centre stand.

Don't remove the centre stand if you intend to send it in to Kawasaki for work to be done. They use it for when working on the bikes. Its safer for them.

With some lowering kits you can,t use the center stand anymore....

This might be the better option since you only have trouble solo, then you can change back to your usual boots when the wife is on the back.....  :smartass:
