I've been with Adelaide (IAM) for 5 years now and always been accepting of a modest year on year increase.

I nearly choked last week when the renewal notice came. £250 quid, up  from £186 last year.

I got  a cheaper quote on line and hadn't got back to Adelaide but I would have needed to tell the online people about NEG cycle escorting and flashing lights on the bike etc which would no doubt put the price up.

Tonight I got a call from Adelaide. I told them I'd never needed to price match their quotes before and disappointing at such a disproportionate increase.

Instantly their admin fee went to zero and having reduced the insured value of the bike (I've owned it for 3 yrs now) and upped the excess by £50 quid Im now paying £180: a saving of £6 on last year!

I'm happy at that as I've always found them easy to do business with.

I am very pleased you got a good price.

But what annoys me, is that this is not uncommon

Insurance Companies do not reward loyalty and do not give you the best price on renewal. Then when you go back to tell them you can get a better price, they match it.

My attitude is then to tell them politely 'To stuff it'. Had they quoted me this in the first place I would have renewed with them. As I say their arrogant attitude annoys me.

Patrick, I renewed with Adelaide in June and they did increase my premium also but after a bit of haggling they agreed to price match my best quote from the comparison web sites and bring it back down to an acceptable level. I will stay with Adelaide as long as they are willing to do this as they are a very good insurance company.

The best quote I got was £407 for my GTR and an old VFR (I left off the old ZZR and GT for the moment as both in for long term repairs - until they chase me).

I use ebikeinsurance.co.uk as they allow me to make changes on the fly, i.e. number plate, add a bike, delete a bike, etc. without any admin charges which most, if not all others do.

I've only got 3 years NCB as a returning to a bike rider but no accidents and 20k+ miles per annum, etc.

half man half pie

I always dread the insurnce renewal on the bikes as well as the house.
Two years ago the house renewal was cut massively when I mentioned another quote I'd had.  The insurer price and cover matched and has only put a nominal increase on this year
Strangely, I was with Privelege and quoted Direct Line as being cheaper.  They are both in the same business group !

I was with Ebikes but had some issues with their site and cancelling a policy.

I'm now with MCE which is telephone based which is soemtimes good and others not so good but I pay about £600 for a 2010 GTR, 2009 GSXR 1000 and 2011 MV AGusta which I dont think is off the planet.
Admitedly they are only insuring one bike at at time for road use as I can only ride one at a time.
They didnt have an issue with a few mods either and include RAC cover.
The telling point for any insurer is when you try to claim
I've had car and house claims with Direct Line and have had no issues at all

You all know my feelings about insurance

However I'm confident they will be brought in line by regulation before long - hopefully. Heres a thing - compare (no pun intended) the adverts of the big insurers a few years ago to the campaigns they run now. Absurd, banal, annoying and I'd say none of them actually inform you of the benefits of their product over the competition.

How would the nice plain Norwich Union ads of the late 70's remain in focus when eclipsed by Confused Clara, Bogdan the Meerkat and any of the guises Paul Whitehouse sold his integrity for with Aviva.

Just as long as their "name" is on your list when it comes to choosing who to contact for a quote. I'd recommend googling "Adturds" for the rationale behind how they get our attention.

I will only say that Swinton sorted out my claim fairly well - the underwriters were LVE who were even better. Dont think I can use them next year as thyre bound to try it on with the "moderate"!!!!! claim I put in.

Good Luck All !

I can't wait for my renewel next year.... I've just renewed my Z750 for £117 with 2years NCD.

My GTR was £174 (full ncd) this year but when I changed the address, they said next year it will be reduced.   :-)

I still think insurance is based on think of a figure!
