I didnt suggest that the driver would feel the collision...... but it shows they  (both trucks moved) didnt check their mirrors before moving.
In fairness; stationary on a dual carriageway and moving off in slow traffic. Why would they?  Yes I know it's best practice and any advanced driver would but....

In my opinion the HGV in the outside lane (right) was already moving when the collision took place, which you can see if you check his road position before and immediately after the contact...also the HGV on the inside lane (left) actually applied his hazard flashers immediately after the contact , even if they had checked their mirrors (maybe they did) it wouldn't have made any difference to what happened.

I can confirm that an HGV of that size and configuration (articulated) almost certainly would have felt nothing as a result if the bike making contact with the rear section of the trailer, maybe a slight bump, but probably nothing more, in any event both HGVs appear to have stopped immediately so maybe they did see/hear what the pillock on the bike was doing.

The biker was very lucky that he didn't slide under the moving trailer wheels of either of the HGVs, otherwise the story would have had a very different outcome.

I think you are right OC, looking at the postion of the r/h lorry relative to the lamp post on the centre reservation,

just seen the first clip posted by "BRYN" what a plonker riding between 2 artics so close together is defo a  :nono:  that guy is dam lucky to be in one piece and should consider hanging up his gloves and stick to push bikes or a pogo stick  I've had my class one licence since 1982 and spent 22 years driving articulated vehicles around the UK and overseas then decided to go back to recovery maintence for local day work  so I can confirm that neither of those artic drivers would have felt that impact  I thought it was common sense that you don't overtake a artic on his blind side and defo a :nono: to ride between them, even when stopped in traffic. why take a chance that the driver will check his mirrors before moving off :sweatdrop: that biker should have waited till they weren't along side each other or if he was in that much of a hurry he should have passed on the hard shoulder, rather risk a fine than loose body parts or even :death:
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Charlie, the HGV drivers should have checked both mirrors before moving, basic car/bike/lorry/trailer driving.
The cabs were in line with the trailer so he would have a full view along the trailer, but yes you're right, with a cab radio playing, he would not have heard or felt anything.
:agree: the artic drivers should have checked their mirrors ok... but honestly, can you defo say when in heavy traffic at crawling speed you say you check your mirror every time you move off.. I think not   I drove artics for 22 years and in heavy traffic your "on and off the clutch" so you tend to let the clutch out at the same time or just before you check your mirrors, the artics drivers were not at fault  the biker was and I'm sure if the  :police: were involved he would have been done for dangerous driving  riding  and in my opinion he should be ordered to take a re-test and highway code refresher course

Bryn, yes I see what you mean. The reaction of the car driver when he went to look speaks volumes. Thankfully that will have been virtually instant.

I don't know which clip you were watching, the one I saw shows a plonker with a death wish weaving in and out of traffic at high speed and recklessly undertaking several cars on a dual carriageway approaching what looks like a traffic jam with 2 stationary trucks side by side at the back and fails to stop in time.

I reckon he didn't have the option to wait for anything nor the intention to 'filter' between those trucks, but he should have looked ahead and realised that those trucks weren't moving and hit the brakes earlier and harder or as you said pulled to the left onto the hard shoulder instead of cursing and running into those trucks.
And I agree, the truckers most likely didn't even know he hit them and didn't do anything wrong.

I'm sure if he didn't learn a lesson from this even on a push bike or a pogo stick he would be a danger to himself and others.  :mfr_lol:

mecki.. I seen the same clip as you  and yes, he was filtering and weaving in and out at speed, but I reckon he had every intention of filtering between those two artics, he wasn't reading the road ahead and underestimated his speed and couldn't loose the speed quick enough when his "one brain cell" worked out that there was a serious hazard looming! he is a "proper plonker" for trying to pass between two artics that are at crawling speed :sweatdrop: filtering in between cars is exceptable at a sensible speed and with observation and the correct riding technic it's completely safe  where the common sense comes in to it is... most articulated vehicles now have a least 45ft trailer, then there is approx another 10ft for the tractor unit so anyone with one brain cell should be able to work out that he can pass cars "individually" in a split second and is more likely to be seen by the driver and filter through the cars quickly and safely. with artics he got to pass through at least 55ft and hope the 2 artic drivers keep there vehicles in a straight line for approx 6 times longer than the car driver :sweatdrop: it's just a :nono: it's a simple as that!!!!!!!

My initial reaction was as per Doebag .... remember Chaps and Debs ..... " It's all about the planning ! "  What an idiot.

Come on, the guy says himself right at the end, 'there was no way I was going to stop'.
As Asif already stated, 'from the moment he said  :shit: for the first time a GTR would still have stopped'.
Well, at least one ridden by an experienced rider that is.  :mfr_lol:
But we will never know what went through his mind since he obviously is an absolute utter pillock.
So maybe you are right and he meant, 'Look, I was showing off to these cage dwellers what a hero I am and no matter how narrow the gap between those trucks I was going to go through - there was no way I was going to stop'

But nevertheless those cars at the beginning were going at normal speed and there were no queues so he was not only speeding but definitely undertaking and not 'filtering'.
It even looks like the first car just avoided side-swiping him and aborted pulling back into the left hand lane to let him pass.

The later you brake the longer you go fast.

jenros

from the first few seconds of him weaving in an out of traffic--an doing so far,far to close for comfort,,,,,,,this knob head was very lucky to have got away with a low slide,,,,he could so easily have been thrown over the bars an got between those wheels!!!!!,an then he would have been a gonner for sure. just hope this clown as learnt from his very foolish/idiotic an damn right dangerious action, just hope hes watched this over n over an realised what a complete prick he his!!.

Surely a contender for next years Darwin awards - i agree, complete tosser. The other clip (pretty horrible) brought it home to me how fragile life is and how easily its snuffed out.

The bike rear ends the car at virtual no speed, topples over and takes the rider under the lorry etc. What a tragic consequence of a momentary lapse of concentration. Upsetting in the extreme.

Similarly Torbay had a nightmare weekend of RTA's including fatalities - total madness out there at present.

Silverback

What a cock, even i could see them!!!

They are out there in their droves, take a gander at this nugget!
