you can open as many ids as you want on ebay, but they will all have the same IP address which in ebays eyes are actually as one , its the IP they ban not the ID, so sorry mecki you are misinformed again.
Of course the scammer may have access to multiple IPs , you will never stop that sort of scammer anyway.

Since when has every internet user a fixed IP address?
I haven't and most likely you haven't either if you use DHCP.
If we all had a unique IP we would have run out of addresses some time ago.
Every time you connect to the internet your provider gives you different IP address for the session.
To find out who is or has been using a particular IP address at any given time you will need to ask the ISP or Big Brother.
And if you use a proxy server as every scammer with half a brain would even the NSA has problems to nail you down.

Viper, in life there are some people who you just can't tell anything, we have mecki.

In life there are some people whom you can tell just about anything and they'll believe it.
You are lucky and have me.

Do you actually have any idea what an IP address is and what it is good for?  :smartass:

If what Viper told us and you immediately believed was the truth the internet wouldn't work.
If you have more than one PC just connect both to the net and check the IP addresses.
You will see that each PC has it's own IP address.
Or you could turn your router or modem off for more than 5 minutes, connect again and check your IP address.
Most likely you'll have a different one than the one you had before.
Try to access the net on somebody else's PC, an internet cafe or a hotspot like the airport, McDonalds etc.
Check the IP address and you'll find it will be different every time.
Now what would you think will happen if you go to the Fleabay website and open a new account.
Do you really believe that they miraculously find "your" IP address?
Of course they don't!       :sleep1:

that is the first time  i have  heard of that ,i was led to believe you have an ip adress and that is yours to go with your computer  / internet provider, if i have trouble with my connections one of the first things my supllier checks is my ip adress , not saying you are wrong but i am sure someone will come along and clarify this .

Lonewolf

Obviously I don't work in IT. I understand there are static IP addresses and ones that aren't static, not sure what they are called, roaming? Who knows, our CCTV system has a static IP address and I know that if I put that static IP address into my settings I can view my home CCTV from a place other than my home address. If it changed when I wasn't at home I wouldn't be able to access it and as I wasn't at home I wouldn't be able to see what it was which would sort of defeat the point of having remote Internet access to my CCTV. Now I'm really confused.

I don't understand all this IT stuff and I don't need to, if I get stuck with something I call my personal technician, Asif.  :mfr_lol:

if you have a static IP address it never changes even when you disconnect , how come online peodos can be tracked to their house , how come ebay can ban you even if you change your ID , how come we can ban spammers who come on here

Let me explain this. Servers need static IP addresses so you can find them when you want to send a request to them. This is managed through the URL (i.e. http::/www.gtr1400.co.uk) which points to an IP address of a server. As a client you only need a return address so the server has an address to send the answer to your request to. This doesn't have to be static since it is part of the header of every data package you send.
IP addresses are allocated by ISP (Internet Service Providers) like BT, Sky, Plusnet etc. using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) which assigns an IP address out of their allocated pool to you. If you go and check your current IP address (just google ip address) you will find that it tells you the ISP but not who you are.
If you use a WAN router this will have 1 IP address assigned as long as it is switched on and connected to the ISP. It will give that address to the first client that connects. When you switch it off it will loose that IP address after about 5 minutes. Depending on the DHCP policy of your ISP you may get the same address every time but that is normally not the case. Now if you connect a second computer through that WAN this computer will need it's own IP address since how else can the router know to which client to send received message. So the router will send a DHCP request to the ISP to allocate a new IP address for this client.

To answer your question - The ISP knows who you are and where you live - after all they send you a bill - and since every message gets recorded on every node of the internet it is possible to trace a connection if you have access to the network.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

mecki i have no idea what you just said , but i believe you  :mfr_lol:

So therefore mecki, based on your own explanation an individual can be traced through their internet connection. "I've No More Questions To Ask M'Lord"

Using Police/GCHQ methods, yes, an individual can sometimes be traced back to their computer, but most crooks with even a micron of intelligence will be using at least one and probably more than one cut-outs. You can use Proxy servers, web proxies, buy access to a compromised Bot-net PC (some cheapskate who is too cheap to buy decent antivirus for his PC and thus is infected and "owned" by a Bot-net herder) and several other more obscure methods.
If I didn't want you to know my IP address, you would not know it and even GCHQ and the NSA would have difficulty tracing it.

As for the FleaBay scammers, if FleaBay wants to throw away half it's income to scammers, so be it.
If idiot buyers are willing to part with that kind of cash without some kind of guarantees, then they are too stupid to be rich.
On FleaBay, trust no-one with more money than you are willing to lose.
If I bought a car or bike from there it would be cash on pickup or delivery ONLY, and I'd check the paperwork and do an HPI check before they got any of that.

No the individual user cannot be traced! Only the location (phone line, cellphone tower triangulation) the connection originated from and you need much more than just the IP address to do that.  :smartass:
Unless you hack into their computer you need the cooperation of the ISP so they give you access to their data which they don't because it is illegal without a warrant.
I doubt that Fleabay is routinely breaking the law just to make sure that nobody opens more than one account with them.
As we all know they don't give a  :shit: .

Is that so hard to understand?
